So for 3 years I have been looking at the IFSA junior or youth competitions at breck or vail. I’m still a teen, but am close to a sponsor. So I’m wondering are those good? What are conditions, others skill, what my skill should be for like; 1st, 3rd, 10th 50th or lash, and judging is like

Also anyone know of any park comps at breck or vail or keystone? And same questions as above just like what it’s like.

Sounds gay, why would you want to join a competition?? Kooky shit, just ski and be yourself in nature man, smoke a bowl. Pack a lip, its all natural and organic.

That’s what I usually do and I have goals. But like a comp would push me to get out more, learn more tricks and put me out there more and let me see how I stack up against each other. I wish I was part of TGI and could do kings and queens of corbets and then just vibe in the backcountry all season

Well, I’d never be good enough for the freeride comps because it’s just not me(I like skiin with a few buds mostly) but if you wanna get top spot at those comps, ski the terrain beforehand over and over so that you know the terrain like all the other local kids do as well. Breck competes on the six senses and Vail competes on lovers leep in blue sky. You’d probably get first doing a backie off of the diving board which is skiers right next to some trees. Hopefully your aspirations come true!

Yes the comps are very good and allows possible sponsors to see how u compare to the rest of the kids your age. Also they are a lot of fun and you’ll make quite a few friends. I highly recommend doing comps.

Ya I’ve skied both a few times. I wanted to do six senses today but it was closer. I don’t think you can flip in juniors. I didn’t know divingboard was on lovers leap. Got any pics so when I go I can make sure it’s the right cliff. I will definitely ski it a bunch

Ya fs, I got a buddy we’ve been working on flat drop 3’s for cliffs and want to go massive on six senses but need to work on not spinning to fast for a big drop. Like I haven’t done a three on more than a side hit or like 5 foot drop.

Also I got an email from a rep, and i am going to be sponsored by a small company kinda like a mini Woodward. But should I just shoot my shot and just be like professionally ask for a sponsor and give him a little about me.

I don’t personally but it likes to hide within trees and shoots you out to the left. Saw some kids go huge off it. I’ll definitely hit it one day maybe within the next couple years. My fitness is not the best right now though. Can’t get my legs far up when I pop, but besides the overthinking, I will do it!

I’m actually competing in an ifsa junior comp right now at whitewater up in british columbia. You will think your going to three off cliffs and go huge win until you come to compete in these and see the venue and the competition. Here is my buddy’s run from today, he placed 13th and is the best skier i know

Him and i are both ex ski racers and can ski super strong through chop and hardback moguls which scores really well. A ton of my buddies had small bobbles or backslaps and didn’t make it to finals, These comps are a LOT harder than you think and thinking of going to one to just pick up sponsers is pretty unrealistic, as if you have the skill to win or place super high you likely will have already been picked up by sponsers.

That being said although they are tough skiing and competitive comps are extremely fun and you will meet lots of great people and learn so much.

I second this. I did the ski the east free ride tour a few years ago thinking I was one of the best skiers on the mountain and I didn't last but not really competitive with the top tier of riders . Humbling experience to say the least

What did the top riders do, cuz I’m panning a big 3 at breck off idk how big but one of the bigger cliffs on the course. And like hit some other stuff idk. But what about flips and corks and rodeos all that isn’t allowed or they don’t care? What’s the deal?

That’s really good to know, I’ve seen videos and the people didn’t have much of a different run than that. I’ll have to get stronger in chop but this helps me prepare, I hope it not to late to sign up.

That’s good to know, idk what the west specially breck and vail is like. I’ll just ski the course a ton, but they’re comps are in March so the snow could be bad.

OP it depends on if you’re ass or good as fuck, i’ve participated in some comps for fun but there’s really no point in wasting the money unless you’re winning some shit.

If you are wanting to pick up sponsors in a freeride style of skiing then you better practice hard in that discipline. It is harder than you think to go to the top of a mountain and try to ski a tech run for the whole way down. If you don’t train with a freeride club than try to get yourself engaged with one because those coaches who know what they are doing can help you a lot in the long run of big mountain skiing

This is all course dependent and remember these events are typically judged on several factors. The top riders had cork 7s and rodeos those are allowed , take the most exposed lines the fastest , avoid any large speed checks that would ruin the fluidity of a run and maintain composure through out it all. Some people don’t do inverts and still score well. In the ski the east tour I’d say people in the top ten may have not even spun but they made up those points in amplitude and other categories. That’s the beauty of free ride events they are very multi faceted

That’s good to know I have corks and rodeos down on tramp so I’ll do those on snow soon. But even in juniors rodeos and corks are allowed!? This is good help tho

In junior IFSA comps there are no inverts allowed. so idk how corked your 7’s are but if your feet go over your head you are disqualified. Kinda a tricky rule because there’s so many tricks that could be inverted or not like a flat 3 would be fine but it has to be really really flat. In all the comps i’ve done the winners hit the biggest airs possible to the gnarliest landings possible going as fast as possible, and probably 3 the second biggest air on the venue.
