106 wide enough for a travel ski?

I sadly live in the east coast but I'm looking into getting a wider ski for some freeride and powder when I travel west. I'm looking into faction prodigy 3.0 (178cm) because I love my 1.0s which I use here in the east.

Do you think 106 is wide enough for places like BC or should I look into the 4.0

Yea 106 is a great middle ground. If you have the technique your able to ski on race skis in pow

Thanks! I haven't really skied any pow but I've been skiing (Ontario, Quebec, and Vermont) for about 14 years now so I'm a fairly advanced skier as far as east coast skiing goes.

and for the record I am about 172cm tall and 63kg or about 5'8 and 140lbs

Yeah you should be good pal. I’m similar height and weight and am lucky enough to have a powder ski and a teaching/piste ski. My powder skis are 108 and they are still good fun on less deep stuff.
EDIT: The 178cm would be best as well seeing as the rocker is gonna make it feel shorter.

Yea that’s fine. Epically deep days that you could use a bigger ski for are so rare and normally a cluster fuck with high winds and crowds and terrain closure and shit. Plus you are small. 108 is my widest ski and I live in CO. It’s extremely rare I wish they were wider.

Surface area and tip shape are most important imo. Width underfoot doesn’t tell the entire story.

most trips you won’t get those super deep days, so it’s hard to justify getting something really wide (110+) for inbounds riding.

106 is pretty good, but you could probably even go 98 at a longer length with rocker and still have a good time, even in the park.

You can demo the Rossi s7 at blue hillside outfitters for $25/hr. I would go for the 180cm at your weight and size. The North chair has some fresh pockets of snow you can hike.

Yeah 106 is a great width for an all-terrain ski, when it comes to width just trust your gut and don't be afraid to try what seems interesting to you.

I’m 6’2”, 200lbs so I have the prodigy 2.0s (98) and 189 length. They were perfect for groomers and some pow. I didn’t have any issues with them tackling east coast and rocky mtn terrain.

I got prodigy 3.0s and love them. 106 is a good middle of then road. You might want more in a boat load of fresh snow but you could definitely make it work. 99% of the time 106 is wide enough in my opinion. If it is a purely powder deep days ski, then yes go with the 4.0.

I'd say depends on where exactly ur going. The Rockies have light enough snow you'd be golden, but if you go far enough west (WA, BC....) the snow is so heavy that it can definitely grab you and I've found that bigger skis help

They'll really just be for any time I'm skiing anywhere with a bit more terrain than Ontario. So no, not purely for mega powder days (thought I always pray for those)

106 would be great. Especially on days when the pow finally gets all tracked out, you could hop in to the park for a few laps and not miss a beat. 1 ski quiver right there!

Hahah "yaa 106 is like a good all-around ski" is like the most west coast statement ever.

Yeah you’re coolin. My widest is 112 but I rarely use it compared to my 102.
