I'm not making the mountain my playground :(

Been out here at Big Sky for 4 days and the conditions are pretty great but I find myself putting all my energy into getting down mogul/tree runs as quickly as possible and straightlining fields of chop as fast as I can. I really haven't gotten any air or practiced skiing switch at all. Sorry Isaac. How do I get myself into a more freestyle-oriented mentality?

Bro it's this close mindedness that makes you fail to ski the mountain like you want. You should gain inspiration from all great skiers, magnus included. Saying "nah I'm good lol" to just a suggestion to watch a skier who does freestyle skiing all over the mountain is proof to me that you will not be able to progress unless you change your attitude. Maybe you don't like watching swerve skiing. But doing it is pretty fun. Try it, don't hate man.

This, also slow down, freestyle skiing isn't about speed but creativity, take the time to search/find all of the side hits, rollers, cliffs and then try weird stuffs, once you have little habits of tricks you like to do or stuff you like to jump off bring back the speed to make it cooler.
That being said that's just what I do, there's no right way to ski.

Edit: one more thing, maybe reconsider the way you're skiing moguls because you can definitely get air off of them...

Haha I know that about moguls but I'm nowhere near good enough to start gapping them, gotta learn to consistently hit them rapid-fire before I think about that. Maybe I can start doing that with the small chop piles on the sides of groomers tho

Ok, tomorrow I'll start thinking about planning freestyle lines before I go down each run.

Bro it's this close mindedness that makes you fail to give good advice.. you can't gain inspiration from a skier whose style you don't enjoy watching. Nothing about watching magnus puts a smile on my face except for knowing how disappointed the kids at my local are after buying his on3p sig skis.

Dude you ski a mountain ……….. and your charging and it’s been 4 days. I get the concern man but skiing a mountain at high speeds switch is fuckin stupid gnarley! People Candide are fucking wizards. If they didn’t ski like that they would be bored. You arnt bored because you arnt good enough to be bored …. No offense. I ski a 250 vert 70 acre resort that isn’t even open. Keep skiing, keep improving and keep pushing. Maybe spend some time on some groomers with knols and find some small cliffs to switch it up every few runs or every other day or whatever. Ski a blue groomer switch and charge it as hard as you can… etc
just keep shredding man don’t worry about it

Thats just your style, rock how you want to ski. Im the same way. Mentally, I have to slam any run I am on an hard as possible and I have even almost puked at the lift line a few times from being out of breath. Even if I try to chill out, after a few turns I just light up and have to rail as hard as possible. I think its from growing up watching Seth Morrison and Tanner Hall and the intensity they had skiing vs the laidback style today. Night skiing is the only time I can kick back and just screw around.

Try going down just like a crowded blue or some shit and just scope out side hits and fun natural features on and around the trail. Next run go slow and hit some of the features you found and you’ll start to feel some kind of flow. Doing this will help you do the same thing on harder terrain, honestly you could probably just do it on harder terrain anyways. Point is slow down and observe fun natural features then hit them flowing in between.
