What I don’t get is why the mountain doesn’t make the race coaches teach basic park etiquette. I see racers side hitting and shit all the time…YOU LITERALLY SKI FOR THE MOUNTAIN how does that not warrant basic instructions on how to ride it

They set up a race course in the main terrain park at my mountain, it’s about halfway down and they all come through the park hitting the rail lips before they get there

My mountains race team all comes to the top of the park, (huge crowd of people standing still) and let's them go down all in a burst. So like 100 kids riding our rope at once so they can all carve around the jumps and jibs. Also they do have 3 or 4 other runs they practice on but they regularly do this

My parents make me ski race. They say it will help me in the park. I’ve been skiing since I could walk I think I know how to ski lmao but I can confirm that my teammates are stuck up and bitchy all the time. I hit cliffs in races. Fuck racers

That can actually be really good training, but should only be done off hours. I know using rollers (outside of park) was great for teaching some of my better skiers how to start reading terrain and solving problems.

This racer dad refused to tell me what he wanted on his kids skis because Im not the shop manager despite me listing every possible combination he could be asking for AND telling him that regardless of what he believes I've already been the one tuning his son's skis every time. Ended up leaving and saying he'll come back tomorrow when my manager was in

His wife was so embarrassed, it was hilarious.




It's always so funny when they come in and are like " did such a good job last time, can I have him do it again"

9.9 times out of 10 he is never the one who has tuned it

to be fair, race kids themselves are not all that bad. from my experience as a coach, all they wanna do is hit the jumps and ride the boxes. i think most of us are just jealous that they preferential treatment.

their parents are the crazies. i got yelled at real bad by a parent because their kid had some scratches on their bases. they thought i took the kids into the park and hit boxes. on the other hand $20,000 a season is a lot of money to have your kids in a race program, but at most levels its just a glorified ski school/day care. the parents just dont want to spend time with heir kids actually teaching how them how to ski.

if you have beef with a group of racers, blame their coach. he/she is the douchebag encouraging shit behaviour. if you want to get real karen about it, you can even call or bitch to the club

All I think about now is the story of Tanner Hall as a kid leaving the course mid race to hit a jump and then veering back in to finish. Most of the time their parents make them and they want to actually do park/freeride I guess was my point.

Mom is a flight attendant dad was a business man.

Go be fair I was park rat and wanted to ski Tues and Thurs nights so I joined and my coach was an ex Canadian mogul champ and he was pro park and threw double backs all the time he kicked ass in the park and supported freestyle. He wanted to make a freestyle team at the time

Personally, it's not that I don't respect ski racing, I just don't respect the local community of prestigious country clubbers coming to my small mountain and acting like they're the owners

I raced for 9 years but always preferred hiking the backcountry and building jumps. Not all racer kids are bad but a lot of coaches can be douche bags and a handful of stuck up parents too. Mine were pretty chill, they just wanted me to have some structure and a break 2 nights a week and all weekend, oh and a couple months in the summer lmao.
