Mt Bachelor's Skyliner Chair Broken Fix Time Unknown

Skyliner chair serves the main terrain parks.
They don't even know when it will be repaired.
I imagine they will set up more features at the Event's area served from Pine Marten lift. That's a long ride for a short park area.
It's a sad situation.
There is a Progression Park that is pretty cool served from Rainbow chair, but that's a slow boat to ride.
They could convert the Family Cross area served from Sunrise chair, but I kinda doubt that would happen, but who knows.
Anyway, it seems terrain park riding at Bachelor will not be as it was for quite some time.
Rumor says maybe fixed by the end of February, but only the shadow know for sure.

Just a heads-up for folks that might want to come for Parks. Better look before you leap!

"Skyliner Update: In these rowdy conditions, we could
not tackle the Skyliner project early this week, as planned. Doppelmayr
is arriving Friday and, with high pressure forecasted, our joint teams
will begin the complex repair work on Skyliner. Pending the deeper
joint-team analysis when teams take down the bull wheel, we aim to have
Skyliner back in the open lift status early next week."

Less grease more often is better than more grease less often!
When will they ever learn. Bearing need clearance adjustments too.

Shoot dang, taking the bull wheel is a lot more serious than I thought. Lifts being down isn't usually to bug of a deal, just gotta pay up to overnight the needed parts but that sounds like a much bigger project.

Yes, it is a huge job, and because it's old, parts will be harder to acquire.
When they have to bring the Doppelmayr guys in, you know it's bad!

The main chairlift control room recently burned down at Kimberley. Their other two lifts now require a half hour walk to access. That's got to be a resort owner's worst nightmare - losing their main lift right before Christmas following two winters of having to close early. They're trying to make up for it by getting a snowcat to transport people's gear, but I can't imagine any tourists paying for that.

I’m curious as to how they’ll go about it being such a large project I’d expect that portion of the mountain to be closed for atleast this week and next depending on weather so they can get the machinery needed on hill to rig the haul line and drop the bull wheel.

I couldn't pretend to know, but they seem overly optimistic as completion goes. We will see.

More problems than they thought.
The parts needed would need to be manufactured, because they don't stock those old parts.

The Skyliner Express lift is closed indefinitely. In other words, they have no idea.

All I can say is SHIT, SHIT, SHIT!

huge bummer. so what does this mean for lift lines and parking issues on the weekends? I hear they are going to run a shuttle from the parking lot. Still guessing it might cause some issues

No, but the main parks are all accessed from that chair.
They are going to build another park somewhere else, but things won't be the same.

On another note, the Rainbow chair (old fixed grip) is now also broken, and that serves the Progression Parks.
So far they are not saying anything about that.

yea i was over by rainbow looking for the smaller features and ended up at the bottom of rainbow and had to walk back up to sunrise, seems like bachelor is having quite a few issues this season so far, hopefully some things get figured out, looks like a great mountian

It's a fun Mt when stuff works! Often plagued with fog and rime, but if one lives there, it's okay. Sometimes you just stay home.

Skyliner Express will not run this season, so that sucks.

They think they can get it running for next season, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

"Skyliner Upate from John McLeod: When we discovered in
mid-January that the damage to Skyliner went beyond the bull wheel
bearings, it was determined that the only way to restore it to
operational status this season would be to locate a complete bull wheel
assembly to swap out our existing one. Sadly, we have exhausted every
avenue for that option and have to face the reality that Skyliner will
not return to service during winter 2021-22.



Clearly, this is a blow to all of us, Skyliner serving the terrain that
it does, being home to the MBSEF programs, as a connector between East
and West terrain, and just being a locals favorite with the easy parking
lot to lift access. I want to acknowledge the efforts and creativity of
our Mountain Operations and Base Operations teams and many others, who
are re-imagining our Woodward terrain park locations, running a daily
shuttle for guests parking or skiing the Skyliner terrain, and many
other adaptations necessitated by this unpredictable event. This is
truly a case of making lemonade out of lemons, and the team is doing a
great job.



That brings us to next season. We explored every alternative to ensure
we would be back in business in the Skyliner area for winter 2022-23.
The only option that will guarantee operations for next season is
removing and repairing our current bull wheel and other damaged
components. Our plan is to commence this work with Doppelmayr as soon as
our current season has concluded. This approach still gives us plenty
of time to remove the damaged components, complete the repairs,
re-install, test, and inspect everything in time for next season. We
will continue to keep our mountain community updated as repairs
progress. Meanwhile, winter 2021-22 has plenty left to offer; we have
fresh snow today and hopefully plenty more powder days before we get to
enjoy the spring bluebird days ahead!"

wow ive never heard of impactful damage to a lift at a world class resort before. makes you wonder how long theyve known there were damaged components, seems likely they knew long before they shut the lift down.

It's 33 years old, and it's been in bad shape for quite some time. Several years.
Sad because it ties the Mt together, and it's where all the park vibes run heavy.
It's the locals place!
