I am not the best skier on the mountain. I sent a 360 and ate shit then someone hucked a backflip right over me. Every line I do someone does it better. Still the best skiing of my life tho🤷♂️
Same with Brighton, sometimes on the chairlift(especially snake right under the lift) you’ll see some kid with vishnus or jets going Mach 1 off of cliffs and moguls catching mad air landing on rocks. God I wish I was that cool
And it has been like this for many years. Grew up skiing Targhee and Jackson, would go ski LCC a few times a season and there was always someone there always going bigger and better.
Remember that these kids know the terrain. They know the lips, landings… every line. Its pretty natural to be impressed with the local when being a visitor. I am always blown away watching young talent.

This is a great point. I generally suck at skiing but having somewhere memorized really makes a difference. I’d get dog walked at Alta lmao

I went to Alta when they had 19 inches last week, my pow skis weren’t ready yet(getting mounted) so I was stuck w them. And let me tell u, I was so embarrassed the first hour. I couldn’t keep my noses up and couldn’t control my skis. After that tho and by the end of the day I “figured it out” and was actually super comfortable ripping around on my center mounts but yea all those skiers there have such good form and go so damn fast. It’s awesome to watch

but truthfully had that exact same experience at revelstoke. Skied what I throught was a fairly techy chute into north bowl with a 10ft air at the end. As soon as I skied out two dudes were flipping high dive and my fuck ya moment was smashed like a fragile pane of glass.
I've never skied Utah but I feel the same way at A basin even though it's just a lil guy. Kids will do some hairy ass shit on just a random Tuesday afternoon just for the fun of it and ski away like nothing even happened.

Have you skied Snowbird? Of all the mountains across the West I have skied in Utah, Idaho, Colorado and Washington Snowbird stands alone as the most apeshit high consequence terrain across the board. Im not even a local at Snowbird, I only spent a few seasons there when I lived in Utah and the mountain and those that ski there have my respect. Unless you have stood on top of Great Scott, Dalton's Draw or across High Baldy Traverse I wouldn't talk shit.

I made a comment on Snowbird compared to Alta which IMO is up its own ass with social media bullshit and the mystique they try to create around the place. Snowbird is a hell of a mountain any way you look at it. Its my favorite mountain I have skied and Im not afraid to say that due to the sheer amount of insane and varied terrain. You have a problem with Snowbird then good for you, most of the gapers from NY ski Canyons anyway. Again, have you skied Snowbird? I would like to hear your answer on that before you go on being a jackass on a ski forum.

Dude, chill. Alta and Snowbird are quite literally two sides of the same coin. They're both a hell of a mountain. The same mountain in some cases. I haven't skied either but pretty sure you can take said high baldy traverse and drop into Alta instead of snowbird, both got chutes, steeps, bowls and plenty of asshole puckering stuff. I don't get why this needs to be this dick measuring contest. Plenty of resorts have challenging terrain especially if you know where to look. You could simply say it's a hell of a mountain and everyone would agree with you, but instead you gotta say it's the craziest mountain in the world, you've skied everywhere and Alta is for instagram pussies. That's what pisses everyone off.
Tired of all this BS about which mountain is the craziest, it's the reason Palisades Tahoe is so friggin crowded, everyone wants to measure their dick at the top of KT-22 but when push comes to shove you aint taking the chutes down and you'd have more fun at northstar. Everyone wants to say they rip at snowbird and shit on park city when in reality most of us would have a great day at either.

It really gets me stoked that kids are throwing down. I try to keep up with the kids; its not easy. Keep this in mind when competiting against kids half your age: “ You might not be the best rider here, but these kids have to climb over me to win! Im not going to make that easy for them either.”

After skiing both the past two days, terrain wise their identical. However the skiers seemed better at Alta and there was a little more of a resort/tourist vibe at snowbird.

I have nothing against Alta. My post is just in response to BrightFrog being a dick because I made a joke post of Alta vs Snowbird. The mountains are similar but Alta is more known as a playful resort with sweet booters and natural features to throw off while Snowbird is more of a hard line big mountain resort with more sketchy lines and cliff bands. Both are dope resorts and its up to you to pick which one depending on how you like to ski. I remember when I moved to Utah I spent a long time looking at resort maps and reviews etc to pick one or the other as combo passes are insanely expensive.
Yes, Alta had a social media problem which pisses off a lot of locals in Utah and elsewhere that kind of built an image that takes away from the actual terrain and the real skiers there. That has been covered here a bunch as well. I will never think less or fault an Alta skier for that though or a skier from any resort. Hell, I grew up skiing places like Mt. Spokane which 99% of members probable never heard of.
I made it pretty clear that I love Snowbird. Other resorts might be gnarlier but when you look at the amount of awesome terrain Snowbird has it really is a special place. Hell, I have written like 5 paragraph posts on Snowbird and all the places to explore. Some of the best days of my life skiing has been there and yeah Ill get stoked on the place and show it just from the sheer amount of fun I have had there. If I get pissed its only because people come here and say dumb shit like, "Snowbird is for Dentists to show off" and crap like that when its about the mountain and how you enjoy it.

I remember summer skiing at a basin 3 or 4 years ago, just cruising under the triple chair when the guy in front of me throws a drawn out hand drag 5 off a roller. That's when I knew the west was built different.
Little cottonwoods have a ton of crazy stuff. I could care less about people younger than me going bigger and same for older people. If I get faster and improve, it’s good for me. The people who go way too big at such a young age could also be forgetting the consequences of doing something wrong while skiing. Skiing remains one of the most dangerous sports there is but this shouldnt dissuade people from doing cool stuff. Besides, everyone already knows the risks. As long as you spook yourself a few times a day or even fall, that’s hardcore improvement. I ski by myself a lot anyways with a lot of driving so it disables myself from getting too crazy. I do badly want to, but then my transportation would be fucked haha. Seeing people do cool shit is nice always anyways and I plan to do a lot of ski photography too comin up.

Really good point dude, I’d never even thought of it like that. I’ve been skiing Mammoth for 20 years and I can rip around without a second thought. I know the hits, the drops, and the stashes. If I drive 2 hours up the road to ski Squaw, I look like a kook because I can’t just nuke around like the billion fucking groms in Tahoe.
