If it's a pow day and that chair is slippery, idgaf, the bar is going down. Otherwise I don't care. Just say you're doing it so us tall folk don't get a concussion.
I've noticed people in Colorado tend to use the bar the least versus Vermont nearly everyone does but I think it's a law in VT.
I like the foot rests usually. Or the chairs that have trail maps.
bar often comes down after a bit when my legs get tired or if u pass over a pretty sketch bit of terrain just for peace of mind. plus I normally wear a pack so im sometimes sitting a lil bit further forward off the seat than is comfortable

It is weird if you ride a mtn where the bar is everh day thing since you started and then move to a mtn with higher sketchier terrain and everyone rides no bar.
Downloading i almost always run the bar because it just feels weird lol
Big fan of putting the bar down. 10 years ago o would rarely put it down, but then my home mountain made a rule that employees must put the bar down when working and now I'm used to it and kinda get freaked out when it's not down because I'm going to try to lean on it sometime and it won't be there.
i don't like the shitty spring loaded foot rest ones that some pomas have with plasic instead of rubber i dont put those ones down no sir they just come back up when you go over a tower i dont like that
Back in the day we never put the bar down and kind of made a thing about it. It sounds dumb now but It kind of differentiated the core skiers from the tourists. I think part of it was most of the expert terrain was serviced by sketchy double lifts like Snow Ghost and putting the bar down was a way of showing you couldnt handle that lift and the terrain it serviced.

Slowly sliding off the seats of Snow Ghost when its a storm day and you are right over the part where its really high up before the midway unload/pats ass is the most core Schweitzer experience
It’s like a thing in Colorado to not put it down. Even ski patrol. Really silly. My wife is scared of heights so we always put it down. Some people act like it’s an inconvenience here to put it down. Ridiculous.

I remember once we got stuck on Snow Ghost for 45 min about halfway between midway and the top. It was pure white out conditions with snow blowing sideways and the chair rocking back and forth. I remember my buddy and I just kept dead silent with our heads down and one hand on the pole and the snow piling up in our laps just waiting for the wheel to turn again.
I've seen so many lifties swing the bar down for kids getting on the lift like they can't do it themselves. I've also seen kids get smacked by the bar from that.
Then take control of the bar the second you get on the lift. Be in charge! Then, make sure all onboard know you are going to put the bar down, before you do.
I never rode a chair that had one until basically adulthood. I’d go to Bachelor or Whistler as a kid occasionally and it was like holy fuck a high speed quad with a bar. Idk White pass got a quad with a bar but you’re at the top in like 5 minutes seems pointless.
I got stuck on the old Bannock chair(currently DreamCatcher now) at Targhee for almost 3 hours many years back. It was diesel powered and it ran out of fuel. Took them that long to get it fueled and primed. I wish there was a bar then, my legs hurt so bad from having the weight of my skis and boots dangling for so long. I still dont always put it down when Im riding solo but it is nice to have somehting to put your feet on.

I refuse to download without the bar down. That shit just always makes me so uncomfortable.
ReturnToMonkeyThe new Big Sky chair is so comfy and easy to fall asleep on. Pretty much zonked before even leaving the base station by the end of the day
Love the fancy chairs, except for when people who can’t handle the cold put the bubbles down. I’m not trying to share oxygen with strangers tf

I’m in Colorado and…..no bar use from me. Only my dad so he can make corny jokes to other people like he only uses the bar after skiing haha. Get it…… I like my feet to dangle….and lose circulation too on the lift. Maybe it’s why my feet get cold in the morning, but the bar is just too much work.
FruitBootProMfs are too lazy to lower the bar but bust their ass 20 times in a row learning to 2p2 and cork 5, crazy how it be like that
True that ^ but probably not lazy, just wanting to not look like they're scared on the chair.
When they ride with me, I'm gonna' lower the bar for comfort.
Holte
If you have been "clocked" before, then take control! Grab the bar. Hold it tight. Don't let them lower it yet. Show the others whose boss, then let everyone know, YOU are going to lower the bar when everyone is ready! You can't raise the bar, unless you lower it first!
Is it just me or does anyone find the foot rests uncomfortable. I still put the bar down because its required at the hills I go to, but I let my feet dangle under the foot rests because I find them uncomfortable.

Exactly. It is not mandatory to rest your feet, or get the weight off them. To each his own.
Imagine if you were a snowboarder with half of four goofy footed. They always have a tough time, until they figure it out.
