Wow guys can't believe Kirkwood only got 3" of snow, so sad California will never be out of this drought

betzwoohoo one more inch! The drought is over!
C.R.E.A.MDam boi! Mammy just got slapped, I imagine were riding stoke from the same storm.
betzYessir! I've got two pair of skis all waxed up and riding Friday and Saturday... first days of the year! And it's 61" of fresh and 80"+ by end of tomorrow!! Super stoked
C.R.E.A.MYaaaaassss! Same we're riding Friday/Sat/half Sunday and while this isn't my first day of the season, it'll be my first powder day in a long time! I saw Mammoth summit is closed today for weather hold, sounds like the next storm blowing in is preventing ops up there... selfishly not mad. Hoping they hold the rope til friday when I can be there.
I'll be doing a demo on friday, testing out the bentchetler 120's acutally, figure those will be the ideal weapon for 2+ ft. I have my ol' pon2oons as backup just in case ;D
Happy shredding my guy!
weastcoatThanks for running it in… we still have not seen more than a handful of flakes fall down here in PA. It’s been like 60
and sunny for weeeeeks now
thedarkwolfMammoth did just get 4' of snow...... just sayin.

betzSo much for La nina...
Don't, worry Tahoe will inevitably be dry for like a whole month while you guys get pounded. It's just the balance of nature. Or climate change idk.
C.R.E.A.MWe did Mammoth two weekends ago and it was a lot of man made snow but it was great to get some turns in, I got some new boots I needed to start breaking in anyways so it was a fun weekend. This weekend will be a whole other level! Mammoth has this phenomenon where the easterly wind blows and scrapes snow from the south facing to north facing slope, even if face gets ridden it will get a nice reset as long as temps stay low!
I've never ridden Kirkwood but I think we'll be headed to Tahoe mid Feb, I'll add you up and PM you if your around that weekend.
I recognized those bases, they look clean! I also spotted the Moments and FTs in the background, you're gonna have a good weekend. I have been meaning to get a pair of BCs for several years now, my main ski buddy has em and won't shut up about them, he rides them every day no matter the conditions. Gonna play around with mounting points and make sure they are what I want but I'm already pretty sure, lol.
Anyways, enjoy, take pics, report back!
betzAlright well my trip didn't QUITE go as expected. But had a great time anyways.
Had a meh day at Kirkwood tbh. My boots just go refitted with custom footbeds over the summer and that shit was not working out. Caused incredible pain until I pulled out the footbeds then they were comfy as can be. Lapped cornice and the Reut, Cornice was just 100% tracked out even in the beginning of the day, even all the way to the edge of sentinel where the rope was. There may have been a few tracks left in wagon wheel bowl according to some dude on the chairlift. Personally I did find a couple turns in freshies off of the Reut. But the main event was whether they'd open chair 10 the wall. I had gotten there at 8am and skied from opening and by the time 2pm rolled around I was totally done. My first day out, my bitch ass covid legs couldn't handle any more variable snow, and I had another day ahead of me. They opened the wall at 2pm, didn't find out till later and totally missed that boat. Heard it was great, but oh well.
So then that night I was checking the resorts and saw Heavenly was opening Sky, Dipper and Comet for Saturday. Yes, it's heavenly on a saturday... but seeing as Kirkwood already had chair 10 prob tracked out, and the best I could hope for was eagle bowl opening, I figured Heavenly would be a better bet, especially since my girlfriend was coming and I know she couldn't handle most of Kirkwood. 3 new lifts > 1 new run lol.
Got there pretty early, got pretty good parking but my efficiency was admittedly bogged down by bringing my girlfriend, so I didn't really start to really get lapping stuff till probably like 10:30am. and STILL. Freshies everywhere. Milky way, dipper woods, ski way glades, and Maggie's canyon it was ripe for the gettin'. It was not crust yet, more like not-quite-set sierra cement, still super fun and man it was a nice day out there. Heavenly is surprisingly efficient at loading the lifts so even with some long lines you never had to wait over 5-10 minutes. After feeling like a weak crappy skier the day before it was admittedly nice to carve circles around all the jerries at Heavenly, honestly I had a total blast. Here is a pic of one of the more pristine stashes I found around Heavenly.
Deez_Mcskisnice dude, glad to hear heavenly is doing so well with getting stuff open. gonna be there tomorrow and I cant wait!
betzBe careful man high winds in the forecast! Upper mountain lifts might not spin. Also the storm is arriving Tuesday night so make sure you get out of there before the cluster.
Would say Northstar is a better bet because it's a bit more wind sheltered.
In any case hope it works out for ya, have fun!
Deez_Mcskisyep, gonna try to get up there and get some laps in early before the wind picks up and the storm rolls in. Gonna stay in tahoe the next couple nights, and I hope we honestly get snowed in. Haven't had a good snowy christmas like this in several years but it sure looks promising!

C.R.E.A.MNice to hear that Tahoe was legit and that you got some powder turns in! Of your new planks, which did you find the most satisfying, or which were your riding more?
We had a bomb time in Mammoth, we were lapping Climax, Dropout, and Wipeout chutes Friday, we took time to explore the backside Saturday, and went back to Dropout and Wipeout Sunday as the wind was resetting a bunch of fresh snow on the north face. It was awesome. I got to ride the entire quiver, plus a demo pair which was also nice.
Icing on the cake was going into the demo shop Saturday evening and bullshitting with the techs there. They had some bent chetler 100's that had been drilled but never mounted, which we picked up for my girl at super deep discount, now shes got a mid fat powder ski. Early Christmas for her!
Looks like another system is passing thru the area this week. Tahoe going to get any snow? You gonna brave the crowds to ski the holiday? Wifey wants to go up to Bear to try her new skis but I am not sure thats what she REALLY wants to do, we will see.
