Christian_BaleIf you want to get good at skiing, ski academies/coaching is simply the best way to do it. If I had that opportunity I would have taken it. I think most people would.
WoFlowzThis threads making me remember the shit me and @weastcoat were posting this summer and we don’t need to go back to the summer of hate ever.
IsaacNW82Yea yea I know everyone hates him but pretty sure David Lesh started his pro career by illegally hopping a train to Oregon or something crazy
+TbernatovichYou always find a way to criticize. Everyone such a bitch on here thinking it’s always about hate. It’s a question, what skiers did not grow up learning from a coach. Don’t need to get soft.
BigPurpleSkiSuitI mean a lot of the older generation did ski racing but they definitely didn't have academies like today.
little1337I went to ski school when I was like 3. It made me into the skier I am today and I couldn't be more thankful for the little learners program.
Chrischi69I feel like ski camps and shit dont really teach u that much its just fun. Shit like wy'east def makes you good tho
FruitBootProyeah basically this. i wouldnt be able to do shit if I didn't go to ski school
not freeski coaching, just ski school for the fundamentals
it's not ski school that's the problem it's the boring comp mentality
little_JibbahSki school is a glorified day care. Change my mind.
eheathMostly jealousy, this guy probably dislikes a certain skier that he knows went to a ski academy. Its a classic example of generalization.
I was going to avoid this thread but its pretty wack to judge skiers this way, everyone gets into skiing different ways and in the end, were all skiers. Being hateful towards someone because they were able to go to ski academy is stupid, its not a freebee. These kids still ski hard and work hard towards their goals, anyone can do that man, you dont need a school to get better at skiing.
Skiblade420The guy asked what well known skiers didn’t go to school. What about that is hateful? If anything, wouldn’t it just inspire young, not so wealthy skiers to “make it” if they’re aware of others who did without expensive coaching?
I swear your brain is the size of a peanut. Always jumping to negative conclusions and arguing things that never happened.
eheathI call it how I see it, you're hating on kids bro and claiming you're not hating is hilarious. Sorry you don't agree with me, but you're the one who's being a bitch about it.
dan38Damn man since when did you become so condescending? Check the ratio on your posts in this thread and you'll realize the vast majority don't agree with you but you're still tryna act like you're the shit. Idk maybe I'm reading this wrong but your tone just makes you come off the wrong way in this one chief.
FruitBootProI guess I'm getting riled up but here's some stuff from Henrik Harlaut's bio:
Born and rasied[sic] in Stockholm, started skiing when i was about 2 years old in Väsjöbacken, Stockholm. My family would always go down skiing to the alpes in France at every vacation. Started Alpine racing when i was 5 years old but at that time my biggest passion in life was Ice hockey. At age 9 my family moved up north of Sweden to Åre (swedens most populair ski resort) because my oldest brother was starting Ski racing academy. And when i moved up there i got introduced to ”freeskiing”...
When I was 10 years old i went on a racing camp down to Italy and on the bus down there i met Jacob Wester (Swedish pro freeskier) and he told me...i had to learn how to do a backflip once we would get down there. And after 3 tries i landed it and it was one of the most amazing feeling i have ever had...Got my first sponsorship when i was 11 by Scott and they invited me to freeski camps/shoots and i was beyond stoked. Went to my first US Freeskiing Open when i was 13 years old...next year i went back...and landed my first switch 1260. Jon Olsson...invited me to his competition Jon Olsson Invitational and... got to hang out with all the best skiers in the world
turns out Henrik has been guided by others through every step of the freeskiing progression journey since childhood. I guess he sucks for wearing baggy clothes and emulating the Wu-Tang aesthetic now. /s

JLejskiing is like the only thing where a dude that lives in his car can be buds and hang out with a guy that lives in a million dollar house
eheathIf you think I care about downvotes, you got me all wrong man.
Maybe I read this OP in the wrong tone, but this dude came off hateful towards anyone who went to a 'ski school' which i think is just out of pocket. I've mostly been trying to stay out of this one, but of course I say one thing and everyone decides to clap at me.
J-Webs88What the hell does it matter where anyone came from or how much money they have? Its such a high school mentality, making comparisons like that. If you're a good dude who cares. Reading posts like these suggests that if your family has money or if you are born into a life with more opportunities than others you should just throw it all away. Just because your parents have money doesn't mean they didn't raise you right. There are douchebags out there both rich & poor. Sure, having to support yourself and going through hard times builds character, but doesn't automatically make everyone out there who hasn't struggled a d-bag.
+TbernatovichWho are you talking to
J-Webs88Who is anyone on here talking to
izzyhennSarah Hoefflin, insane that she only started getting into freestyle after graduating college
funeralFun fact: Andri's parents are mineworkers. 100% respect to make as a proskier with that background.
FruitBootProno fucking way fr???? some people are just built different when it comes to progression
izzyhennyeah, her bio says she only skied weekends until she decided to pursue skiing instead of going to med school. Built different for sure
funeralFun fact: Andri's parents are mineworkers. 100% respect to make as a proskier with that background.
FruitBootProBecause he made it about how if you went to ski school you're a bitch with rich parents blah blah blah. Dude could've just said "there are a ton of comp jocks or whatever nowadays who get coached and taught, what skiers have reached mastery without that?" But he had to say some shit about how some ppl who ride Vishnus are actually bitchmade ski school dropouts or whatever. So wack. I guess it's "Fuck anyone who has a family who isn't poor and enjoys skiing together" now lmao 🤦
MichiganCatFartnice name, are you planning on changing you picture too?
Skiblade420He’s joking and after gave them props to clarify. Y’all so damn soft on here

DTetzwhat about if you dont have rich parents so you get into dental school just so can afford to go to ski school when you're 30/make your own. Does this count? also is this bs since my kids will get privilege of my hard work? Do i not let him on my dry slope airbag until hes a doctor or what? Asking for a friend
