brotoVail sold 2.1 million passes. If all 100 active NS members boycott, we'll have it down to like 2.099999 million 😎
Jemsive always thought of ways you can shoot blows realistically at vail without convicting multiple felonies
PeppermillRenoAlways make sure you eat something for free at their cafeterias before getting to the register to pay. Face the tendies and leave the fries and go pay for your soda. Fuck Vail. I remember doing this at that outrageous lodge at the top of Vail where shit was 30 bucks for a burger and people on here went off on me for it.
Also in the shops keeping something pricey on the low when you buy a hat or whatever.

Jems“WHAAAAT YOU CANT EAT THOSE $10 FRIES THAT WE PAID 30 CENTS FOR”
skiermanWhy is it the kids who always scream boycotts are the last people to boycott?
JacksonA125Tell me you bought an epic pass, without telling me you bought an epic pass.

keagan.karstenslook at all those guys in Pennsylvania. They have no other choice
jakeordiePowdr should drop hella snow guns at the OG woodward. Gilson is right down the road.
JacksonA125Tell me you bought an epic pass, without telling me you bought an epic pass.
eheathWhat's wrong with buying an Epic pass? I'd love to hear your input.
JacksonA125There’s probably already a thread for this, but when are we gonna just stop giving vail business. They seem to be a plague anywhere they set up shop, and allowing them to keep destroying mountain communities would be a big bummer. Anyways, Fuck Vail.
JacksonA125I guess this is a similar issue to climate change and fossil fuel usage. There’s nothing wrong with buying a gas car, most can’t afford an electric one, but when we go to vote, we vote with our planet and more specifically our future snowpack in mind. We can’t vote with vail, but we can talk with our money(well i can’t bc I’m broke). Bottom line is I guess I’m just frustrated and want to do something to change the way this company operates but everyone is right, and there’s not really anything we can do.
BreslinDoes NS get paid to defend Vail?
betzBecause imo Alterra resorts is nearly as bad and even worse in some ways.
eheathI think you're confusing defending with having a productive conversation, like its been said, many people call these resorts home.
I agree with this, Alterra has pushed the ikon pass to many resorts they have no business having access to like Jackson, Alta, etc while at least VR buys the resort before the pass works there (they do have a couple of deals like alterra but theyre small).
Alterra's goal is to have a pass that accesses the most resort and its a terrible model for locals, the Cottonwoods were busy before the Ikon pass and Covid certainly accelerated growth, but I blame the Ikon pass for the fuck fest that is LCC and BCC on a regular bases.
MiIfHunterI don’t get the call home thing. That’s bs. Check ur privileges
dmcdmcWith regards to the ikon + epic passes making resorts too crowded, I feel like we would also be complaining if passes were more expensive which would make skiing less accessible. Kinda tricky. I'm anti-Vail but only because prices are so high relatively. But different people look for different experiences and Vail has their market. Hard to be too upset about them making more money if the market supports it. I would probably ski less if prices were higher across the board.
betzBecause they bought our favorite mountains. Our favorite mountains don't stop being our favorite mountains just cus someone else bought the mountain...
imo Alterra resorts is nearly as bad and even worse in some ways. Palisades costs $240 for a day ticket on peak days, like $178 on off peak weekdays, that's worse than almost any vail resort. Ikon passes are almost universally more expensive than Epic. Speaking of Palisades they are building a relatively useless Gondola just to bring in tourists and so they can have the title of largest ski resort. They put in a proposal to build a friggin water park also. They may not go as hard on changing signage or trying to control the town a resort is in, but they will still try and milk you for every dollar you're worth. So I don't really see how they are much better than Vail.
I've gone independent nearly every year but Sierra burnt down and Sugar bowl is like $200+ more than an Epic pass. I want to ski at Kirkwood this season so yeah, I bought a fucking Epic pass. I'm really not going to care I inflated a corporation's net worth by 0.0000039% when I'm skiing tits deep in pow later this week.
eheathBuying an electric car doesn't just make you a good person that wants to save the environment, you need to power that vehicle with sustainable energy, but most people are powering their electric cars with fossil fuels.
I only asked you this question because for people like me, my home mountain is owned by Vail and I buy an epic pass as my season pass. Many other people are like me, they buy an epic pass for their local mountain and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
A good chunk of people buy epic passes for their vacation which I would also argue is just fine as well, they're gonna spend the money on tickets anyway, its half the reason there have been so many epic passes sold this year. People have been doing this for awhile, there are just "more" people skiing now.
Monsieur_PatateNow to your point about electric cars, not to derail the thread, but while EVs might not be as green as some people think, even when accounting for how most electricity is produced today, an EV is still typically responsible for lower levels of greenhouse gases (GHGs) than an average new gasoline car, and as renewable energy sources are growing to produce electricity this will only become truer and truer in the future.
eheathYeah I think we're on the same page here, no need to get to into that.
JacksonA125Sierra has been my go to mountain since I first learned to ski and I think that’s why vail frustrated me so much. I don’t think there is any mountain with better vibes than Sierra, and I just wish the rest of the resorts around tahoe would follow suit. Last year was my first vail resorts/ epic pass experience, and I’ll admit it was an off year to try new ski area’s, but my family used to go to Kirkwood before vail bought it and I missed the mountain. I’ll probably learn this year that alterra is just as bad and just be happy to have Sierra back next season. Just sucks everyone can’t be like Sierra.
betzIt really does. I love Sierra so much and it's absolutely devastating what happened to them.
They are affordable to both day ticket people- buddy passes, SWAF fridays, costco deals etc and season pass holders-

Canis_lupusI grew up skiing pcmr as my local so having the epic pass is a guarantee for me every year. Fuck vail they took away half the parks

twonsarellijust in case you guys are curious, for electricity production in the US since 2007
-coal has dropped from just 1.998 quads to about 0.768, about a 61.5% decrease
-natural gas increased from .814 to 1.512, about an 85.7% increase
-wind has increased from 0.034 to 0.337, about an 891% increase
-nuclear has changed very little but is slightly more than coal presently, so at least coal is now the 3rd most used source of electricity production in the US. it has a bad reputation for lots of reasons but apparently some of the latest coal plants are actually remarkably efficient and 'clean' when compared to older production facilities
At least around here, lots of people have solar panels on their homes as well, so setting aside the potential issues with production of the panels themselves, it is conceivable that a not-insignificant portion of an electric vehicle charing regimen could be from the household's own production. obviously, every situation is different but these all seem like positive changes. There is no silver bullet but I would love to see the nuclear figure go way up in addition to the renewables
Maybe we can even do such a good job we can remove some dams and give the fishs a chance to swim free again!
HypeBeastTbh if Snowshoe wasn't ikon and owned by Alterra, I'd have a tough time not buying an Epic pass. I vote for IKON and all their worth even if @BigPurpleSkiSuit and all of slc hates them lol
BigPurpleSkiSuiton the whole, I agree with this. I love how more people are able to enjoy skiing via Ikon, but there needs to be either terrain expansion, or more chairlifts to be able to handle the increased crowding because of it. The equivalence I would draw is if you lived in an apartment that was a 2 bedroom and your landlord informed you that starting next year they would be also renting it out to a group of 10 yuppies who all can afford much higher rent than you. Also they will always be using the amenities, so you will have to wait at least a few hours to shower in the morning. It's just overcrowding for the sake of profit on someone who can't defend themselves anyways. So yeah, for resorts to just be doing it as a massive cash grab while barely paying their employees anything is a bit of a slap in the face.

PeppermillRenoGood terrain big city direct flights from everywhere lots of snow good terrain cheap.
Has nothing to do with Ikon would be super busy regardless.
Sorry people like the same thing as you.
Somewhere like Aspen might have a gripe that more unwashed folks are driving in from hotels in Glenwood and further than before since that crowd doesn't spend 200 per on lift tickets. Locals don't even buy the ikon.

PimpChimpinDo you know how swamp/marsh land works? Dams do the same job as a beaver would building a damn. Wetlands are the most important ecosystem and dams provide this
