Vishnu keys durability

I’m not trying to shit on vishnu, but how the fuck does this happen? My friend got these mounted literally today and was straight sliding a tiny ass pvc tube.

Did he catch on the front of the tube weird? Also did he wax the skis while getting them mounted? Factory wax is fine but adding another layer into your bases prob isn’t a bad idea.

Factory wax is almost always garbage and just meant to keep the bases clean/edges from rusting. That said I don't see why not having a fresh wax would cause an edge to dent like that.

Sadly this is likely user error. The edges just shoulda been detuned.

Looks like edge compression from banging metal on metal. Sucks man. That’s a major bummer.

It looks like there was a impact directly to the side of your edge. As Dan said, user error. Its great that the edge didn't break because that happens on most skis if you smash the edge like so. With some TLC you could move that edge back and epoxy it. Either way put some epoxy in it and they will be okay.

If you build skis marketed as rail or street or park skis and don’t factory de-tune them, at least give people a notice with their skis that if they plan on hitting a lot of rails to grab a file and gumminstone. I feel like it’s common knowledge for people who’ve been hitting rails for a while but it could potentially save some little Johnnys day from catching on a rail and eating steel. That would be beneficial to all parties, lil Johnny’s skis last longer and now he’s not blowing up Vishnu trying to get a warranty for rail damage he’s blowing up Vishnu trying to get reposted on insta and buying all their thrifted goods. OP That shit sucks and I’d be heated but is fixable.

every pair of skis i’ve had i never detuned and i’ve always gone straight to the park with factory wax and sharp edges and they’ve never bent in, cracked, separated, anything. not saying you shouldn’t detune and wax but... it’s also not really the golden ticket to not break them on the first day. seems like everyone might be a little hasty to call it user error because of that is all. it could be, it also could be defects?

Funny story, Vishnu literally does this. Every pair of skis comes with a small note on how to detune and what to tell your tech when getting the skis mounted.

Interesting, that’s tight. I’ve never owned vs so I wasn’t aware but i have mounted many and never seen that note. Wouldn’t put it past kids in upstate not to bring the thing in that helps the shop tech lol. Usually if a kid is bringing in Vishnu’s they’re no older than 24 and has bindings in a bag with at least one missing screw hahaha. Usually homies tho.

Damage like this usually has to do with how the skier is getting onto the rail/swapping. The idea is not to jump onto the rail as hard as you can and bang your edges into the metal (or PVC in this case), but rather to pop and glide onto the rail, being light on your feet overall. Generally this comes with experience, not hating on a beginner skier just explaining how damage like this can happen.

As stated above, user error. Regardless, have him contact me via insta or email and depending on the size and what i have left I will try to work something out with him.

My best guess is the two skis smashed into each other on the fall. I have this on my powder ski and that's how it happened to me.
