I'm the same I ride 8.5 and that has been good I've had some painfull twist releases at that setting where i had to take the rest of the day or one time a weekend off but no actual damage and I can butter and stomp around never got any prerelease. I'm a mediocre park skier thou so if your hitting some big boy shit maybe 9 or 10 is warranted I couldn't see myself ever needing past 10 thou unless your doing like triple corks.
Start with your calculated number. Let the shop do it man. You polling for what others use is pointless especially since we are all different heights, weights, and most importantly have different BSL which is a large factor in the DIN. Then and only after you have tried out your calculated number should you think about adjusting. And you would only adjust if you were having prereleases. Don't just empirically set it to 10 just because some kid online said he runs his at 10 too. That's stupid.
