What’s the worst package delivery service?

FedEx, USPS, UPS, DHL or Amazon?

FedEx is currently topping my list and has been absolute dog shit this year. Lost packages, damaged packages, tracking doesn’t work, delivery to the wrong place and my favorite leaving packages in the pouring rain when my covered porch is literally 10 steps away.

USPS has been super consistent this year and UPS is the goat at the moment.

Personally, I’ve never had any shipping issues. I guess I’m either lucky, anal as to where I buy gear or other stuff, or avoid the errors other people make. In terms of speed though, dhl is last, but they mostly fulfill international orders so it makes sense. I’ve had UPS delay some shipments before, but never lost.

Yeah. I think some locations get their packages more quickly and reliably than others. Depends on where you are relative to the shipment hubs i think.

For what its worth i used to work for fedex home delivery. During peak/xmas season Its a 16-18 hr day 6 days monday-saturday.

Im talking about:

-showing up to the terminal at 6:30am

-loading 300 stops/450 packages onto your truck yourself which takes 2-3 hrs.

- drive to route, 30-45 min

-drive 40 mph thru 50 neighborhoods delivering packages and literally running to the doorsteps and then back to the truck, for the next 12-13 hrs (combined distance travelled on foot =8-10 miles).

-Deliver last package around 8-9pm,

-then travel back to terminal, 30-45 min

-get home between 10-11pm.

-Force yourself to eat a couple sandwiches before you pass out.

-pass out about 10 seconds after you lay down on the couch.

-get 5-6 hrs sleep,

-wake up next morning at 6am, head back to the terminal to load the next days 450 packages onto your truck.

-fedex home delivery runs 6 days a week during peak/xmas season. Its literally one of the most insane jobs i can imagine. I ran in a d1 track team in college and i was in better shape after working fedex for 8 months. This was back when they used to use turn by turns and you would have your manifest which was 150 pages of “go right on this road, left on that road, service on the right…. Its probably a little easier today with all the gps technology they can use today but id be surprised if it wasnt still just as intense during the peak. Most other shipping entities pack the truck for you and you just show up at 8 am and go deliver your route. But fedex home delivery you had to spend 2-3 hrs ordering and packing the mountain of packages onto the truck yourself every morning. Even during the peak. Definitely a brutal job.

Diocom or DHL are the worst. Every single I had to use them; gear was damaged or late by 2 weeks. Amazons courier is the best.

Just had a package delivered that was stuck in customs for 2 weeks, definitely not the worst on. Bought a part that cost 3$ off Alibaba , got sent back to china and by the time I got it it was 5 month ,definitely worse ones

Canada post are a bunch of fucknuts. Hasn't happened to me, but lots of my shooting homies have ordered guns/ammo online (In Canada, they can be delivered straight to your door), in packages that require signature. Fuckin Canada post keeps leaving packages obviously containing firearms at people's doors, instead of just leaving a pickup notice and returning it to the post office. But fuck UPS too, they'll charge you with crazy fees to ship stuff from the US. Got a pair of Tele Boots on sale, was around $600CAD ($800 regular), and the fuckers charged me $40 for shipping, plus $250 for border "fees" (Tax was ~$100, they charged me another $150 to pay it).

I've had good and bad experiences with all of them.

The one consistently terrible service was that of On-Trac, they did a lot of contracting with Amazon in California before Amazon had their own fleet. These people would drive the most clapped out minivans at extreme speeds through neighborhoods and literally hurl boxes and bags out of moving vehicles, complete insanity.

Shout out to fedex for tossing my packages in the pouring rain again today, with no plastic bag over them or anything. There is a covered porch literally 5 feet away.

Everyone's experience will be different but for me personally on average when it comes to delivering on time it goes: Fedex > Amazon > UPS > USPS. For USPS I always add 2 days to their expected delivery date because they're simply never on time. Fedex has been historically slightly better than Amazon and UPS but not by much, all 3 are fairly similar. And USPS's "hold package at post office" option is just a joke, tried using it 3 times, package always ended up being delivered anyway.. The guy at the post office told me the "system" is basically a guy having to remember to manually print a piece of paper the morning of delivery and leaving it somewhere the mailman will see it.. which to no one's surprise never works.

I've also had a terrible experience with UPS a couple of years ago where I needed to simply re-route a package and that thing took over 2 months and every time I would call someone would tell me something different/make up some other bs reason to get rid of me and do nothing to try and fix the issue. God awful customer service, but as long as you don't need customer service it's fine I guess.
Also one time I had to print a label and this UPS store charge me over $5 to print the label. I was in a rush before going on vacation so I paid up but I swore never to give them my business again if I can avoid it, and have stayed true to my word so far, regularly ship stuff and never used UPS ever again, fuck 'em.

They may well be (or have been) a smaller regional carrier. They used to deliver a ton of Amazon stuff in the Bay Area when I lived there. Be thankful you're unaware. Imagine your local postal worker but totally strung out on meth driving a $500 Kia Sedona/Dodge caravan/Ford econoline

One time I got passed on the right by a FedEx truck on the highway when I was already doing like 20 mph over the speed limit. I was like damn these guys take package delivery pretty fucking seriously. 😂

FedEx is usually on point but recently my Wife switched to Verizon and they lost her SIM card for a week and a half and Verizon would not send a new one. It basically made it so she didnt have a phone for 10 days.

Used to work for USPS, heavy heavy union - I never gave a shit where the package ended up other than getting it off my truck before 6PM so I could go have a beer. Mind you 6PM means a 12 hour day with a 30 min break so you aint working too hard after that point

This is wisdom. We switched because T-Mobile's network sucks and I dont have coverage at my house in the middle of Colorado Springs. After FedEx lost the Sim card and Verizon wouldnt do shit about it they ported the wrong number to the SIM Card so when my Wife would call me it would show a different number and if I called the number back it would go to a different person. She had to call Verizon like 4 different times and it took them over a week to resolve.

So I always use such package delievery services as dhl, dpd, and gls sometimes. And it is not only because they deliever everything in time, but also because of very important for me tracking fuction they offer to use sendungsverfolgungpost.de. The parcel number is recorded at each station at which the parcel is loaded or reloaded. It allows you to see which logistics center or warehouse is being used to deliver something. Then, the package is loaded into the delivery vehicle. This is also confirmed by a scan of the id. And at the very end, the transfer to the client is recorded by scanning the parcel number. Finally, you receive a message that your package is delievered.

Y’all don’t know bad until you’ve had experience of some of the euro delivery companies.

Hermes is particularly bad.

I don’t blame the drivers though, they get given so many deliveries to do, not enough time to do them all, so it’s no wonder that when the delivery isn’t a straight forward ring the bell, hand over the box, that you get bad service.

Despite them having lost boxes of mine in the past, I can rely on UPS to deliver anywhere in the world for me, plus having the carbon neutral option is good.

fedex is good but expensive in my experience.

I have a bit of insight on Fed Ex and UPS. Many years ago I was a manager at a Fed Ex Ground/Home facility and I have family that is in management at UPS.
Fed Ex ground/home drivers are all contract owner operators, meaning they own their own vans/trucks and have had to bought a route. They are contracted to Fed Ex to deliver their packages but have nothing else to do with them. Drivers pay their own insurance, maintenance, fuel, etc. for their vehicle. They get paid per package and per stop. More stops, more packages = more pay. Peak period(Christmas) I have seen drivers paychecks for a weeks worth of work over $10k. Not saying this was every week but was common through the busy months. Some drivers are hired by the owner operator of the route/van and are paid an hourly wage(depends on their agreement). All of the drivers vary but Fed Ex just want as many packages out for delivery and scanned delivered.

UPS drivers are all unionized. They are paid hourly with per stop and per package bonuses, again, more stops, packages = more money. UPS handles all maintenance, fuel costs on their trucks so the driver just has to drive and deliver. Truck breaks down, they send another one to come off load packages and deliver them. Fed Ex driver has to rent a Uhaul van to finish their deliveries. Both have their perks, both suck and can be lots of work. One of their sayings is "If your wheels or feet arent moving, you arent making any money". Covid hasnt helped any but just drive up costs and amount of deliveries. At the end of the day, it is a physical job and takes its toll on the body. I have lots of stories regarding packages "so called lost", usually comes down to a fat fingered number on a zip code. I could elaborate more on all of this but this should give you the basics of how the 2 largest delivery company drivers operate.

what the fuck are you talking about even if you work an 80hr week that works out to $125/hr which is $110 dollars more per hour than i got paid to work at ups
