Sledding in Nelson BC

Bandits are goin to Canada and we wanna know what sled access is like out there. We know fernie is sick and has a lot of sled access but know nothing about Nelson. Any knowledge about it would be sick.

It's kinda tricky. More sled access to touring rather than sled laps. Redfish has some sneaky spots you gotta work for. Sitkum forest road has some dope jump spots. Barrett lake is a bigger zone. There are better spots north but the locals get so jaded and territorial that I'm not even going to out that hate into your life.

There very few written rules around Nelson, but you have to know which areas are permanently closed to sleds or you will get your tires slashed.
I highly recommend talking with the snowmobile association to know which areas are opened. By my best knowledge, the best sledding designated areas are: Rover Creek fsr, Giveout fsr, 6mile fsr (lemon creek fsr joins it), Idaho peak (New Denver).
Dont bother with the Pass. Most areas are closed to sleds for Cariboo and the rest is Park territory.

If ya want a guide, I live here and have a good knowledge of Nelson and the surroundings.

Locals.
Its for a good reason: its so we dont loose our access for touring. If people are being careless with parking rules and private property, we can easily loose this access. The province can erect gates and close areas at their discretion. We almost lost the Kootenay Pass because tourist were parking in chain up areas on the highway, or disregarding no parking signs.

How much do you charge to guide? There’s 7 of us varying in skill in terms of snowmobiling.

I dont have a sled, but I can point parking spots and areas of interest. Depending on when you are planning to come down, I just ask for a lift and join ya for a day. There are a few weeks this year that I will be travelling for comps.
