Do you take Adderall or any prescription amphetamines for ADHD or any other reasons?

If you have ADHD, Adderall just makes it worse. ADHD is defined by not only hyperactivity but also the ability to stay focused. The reason normal people can stay set on stuff like homework is that they don't get as distracted as people with ADHD. People like myself with ADHD get distracted and then cant work on anything else. Now amplify how much you wanna get focused on the distractions. This is what Adderall does. Had me hyperfocused on everything but school like video games for example and my grades were terrible(in reason). I also lost my personality with Adderall when I was younger. So, I stopped taking medication altogether. People may think I'm a little goofy, but its better than feeling trapped and hyperfocused on something nonimportant. Could be different for others, but that's my experience.

So many kids were taking a fuck ton of Adderall back at college. I saw some stupid shit like kids staying up for 3 days to cram then literally nodding off on their feet during a class presentation. At the end of the day even if you think its making your life better you are just writing some fat checks your body is going to have to cash later.

I was prescribed to Adderall when I was in school and took it every day because I have primarily inattentive type ADHD. It drastically improved my grades and ability to focus. I really have a hard time motivating myself to start projects and work and Adderall completely fixed that. However, the side effects were pretty noticeable. I had bad mood swings and became irritable. I also found myself chasing the 'high' you get when you first start taking it instead of trying to find a balance and would get my psychiatrist to up my dosage every couple of months. I eventually decided that the side effects weren't worth it and stopped taking it. If I were to go onto another stimulant I would try something with a delayed or extended release like Vyvanse and try to get to a place where I do not get high from it. I manage my ADHD now by breaking tasks down into sub-tasks and writing them out in a list that I can follow. Some days are better than others but overall I am happier.

Everyone I know who is in pre med is seemingly dependent on Adderall to function. I lift 5-6 days a week. Amphetamines fuck w your heart and constrict blood vessels which kills your "pump" in the gym so I avoid them. Also pills sketch me out unless I'm getting them from a legit pharmacy or from someone w a legit prescription.

This sounds allot like me except chasing the high part. I used to not be able to get anything done period unless I was sat down by my teachers and told to do right then and there. I got a stimulant med..not Adderall but similar. And it completely fixed my school work and ethic and stuff. But I did feel like I was "loosing" my personality a bit. Really sucked casue I was pretty happy before but after a while I guess I matured a little and was really cringed by how I used act. Like really outspoken and not caring what people think so I'm chilling right now

It's really fucked up that we get kids who just want to be spazzes and play and build and learn but we want them to sit in a desk for 7+ hours a day so we fuckin drug them to do it. It's incredibly sad that we don't cater to interests and build education around that but instead we allow schools to try to fit everyone in the same box and if they can't reach certain kids they're deemed with some sort of 'deficit' or 'disorder'.

Vyvance and ritalin i prefer to adderall or focalin.

if you want a short spike in concentration ability you want ritalin or concerta which is a slow release ritalin.

for long lasting performance vyvance is good.

also, Vyvance needs to be metabolized by the liver into its active form; so if you snort it you wont get any bigger of a rush than if you swallow the pill or let it dissolve in your mouth.

so if you dont want to be tempted to snort your adhd meds, vyvance is a safe bet.

eh its a double-edged sword. Yes, school is inherently boring but kids with adhd struggle with more than just focusing on school work. Even the most mundane things like listening to what someone standing right in front of you is saying can be hard. I still cant go to busy places like bars on a Saturday night because I get overwhelmed by all of the noise around me and cant socialize. Busy / loud places give me a lot of anxiety. A lot of kids with adhd have problems fitting in and making friends which can be detrimental to their self image. I spent my whole childhood getting shit on by my parents and had to go to a therapist to work through the issues that caused me as an adult. I might have been better off just being medicated from a younger age.

I never felt the need to abuse any of that shit but Vyvanse makes college feel like easy mode. I don't take it most days unless I have exams or need to bust out a 10 page paper in one sitting. I feel like it's not good long term cause it can be kind of a motivational crutch and if I'm doing something I genuinely enjoy/would be doing anyway, I just feel tweaked out and have no appetite for 7 hours.

This is kinda my experience with adderall. Sometimes it helps me focus on studying/homework, sometimes it helps me focus on shitposting on NS or studying some side project instead of homework. Kind of a crap shoot.

The problem is that they're giving it to any kid in elementary school who can't stay focused. Like no shit 8 year old boys can't sit still for 7-8hrs/day. I know quite a few people who got prescribed that shit by their schools, even though they didn't have ADHD. If we have to pump our kids full of meds just to tolerate school, shouldn't we fuckin change up school a little bit?

I wish I still had some for days when I am just being a piece of shit. But honestly I found that it helped my performance at work and whatever I was engaged in, but it didn’t help motivate me to study earlier for a test or things like that. Once I did sit down and start doing homework I was a machine but I would still procrastinate a shit ton medicated or not.

The other thing is I found the stimulation to be just generally uncomfortable. I never wanted to eat, and it’s one thing to be at 11/10 on a busy construction site or something but coming home and just wanting to chill the fuck out in my living room became a challenge. You can’t really dull the effects with weed and booze either you just gotta let it wear off which I hated.

Especially since kids cant actually run around and rough house at recess anymore. I also think social media and Iphones have killed a whole generation's attention span. We have literal psychologists who design sites for kids to be as addicting and hyperstimulation as possible then wonder why they cant focus in the mundane 'real' world.

Meds like Adderall and Concerta, especially those higher doses people like to abuse = no Bueno. I took Concerta 18mg for years and felt like I was in a constant state of fight or flight, super wired, systolic BP over 135 which is gnarly for my age. Wasn't until my doctor recently mentioned it so I changes my med and lowered the dosage. Much better.

Legalized speed. I liked them too much in college. I had to give them up. It’s really irresponsible how we prescribe them to kids who are growing.

It reminds me of that South Park episode where they think Butters has multiple personality disorder because he’s a kid pretending to be a truck driver. It’s called being a kid.

struggling college student here. took some adderall to learn more but it didnt really help much. what helped more was/is going without getting stoned. adderall might make me think im learning but what helps me retain knowledge is having a better short term memory.

My roommate was prescribed adderall and was on it 24/7 for his ADHD. We’d be sitting on a couch and he’d come up to us, stand on our knees, hold onto our wrists, hunch over and yell in our faces.
