BradFiAusNzCoCaI would ask you the same. You’re probably doing a skid carve, at best. Why you getting so upset btw?
dolanslebensraumThey are meant for urban only
jompcockI literally coach carving drills as part as my job. I no longer value your opinion. Have a nice day.
dwt802And you can carve skis missing edge in east coast ice too? Yeah nah and proper detuned edges cannot hold on east coast ice. There isn’t any sharpness to pierce the ice. You will do nothing but slide around. I agree with you that skiing on those conditions makes you a better skier overall but in the moment you cannot properly carve I’m sorry.
hi_vis360when are people going to understand that good quality doesn't mean indestructible? If you ski park and are hitting rails all day, skiing sketchy af early season tree runs and shit, your skis are gonna get fucked up even if they're on3ps.
Grondini117wait what’s “as much as possible” more exactly?
BradFiAusNzCoCaI had a long typed out response but I don’t feel like entertaining this anymore. All I’ll say is:
1) I’ve spent the last few years skiing places known for ice
2) the most grip is immediately before a slide in driving/race theory. You can’t grip if you’re already sliding. Thus proving your point moot. You’re literally arguing the point for straight skis over shaped skis.
The only thing I can think is that maybe your detune isn’t as aggressive as you think. I have carved on detuned skis. Your ski can not hold the edge unless it is soft snow. This is just a fact once the ski starts to flex and the edge underneath your foot takes the primary force of your weight. It is why skis are shaped. Your weight flexes the ski and the shape allows your foot to be slightly lower down the hill than the tips and tails. This is just a fact. I don’t have anymore to argue about because this is just how skis are made. It’s 101.
jompcockHoly shit dude how the fuck can't you grasp this concept? Batting weight, climbing a mountain with a backpack full of rocks. DOING SOMETHING IN A MORE DIFFICULT WAY WILL MAKE YOU BETTER AT DOING THE THING WHEN YOU REMOVE THE HINDERANCE. SKIING WITH SHITTY TECHNIQUE AND DULL EDGES IS DIFFICULT SO YOU WILL HAVE AN EASIER TIME USING GOOD TECHNIQUE. SKIING WITH SHITTY TECHNIQUE AND SHARP EDGES ISN'T THAT HARD SO YOU HAVE LESS OF A CATALYST TO FORCE YOU TO SKI WITH GOOD TECHNIQUE.
Maybe I'm just an absolute god and the best skier on the mountain but I maintain that I my edges can't cut skin UNDERFOOT and I can carve just about any day of the season on the east coast. I'm not trying to argue that racers should dull their edges.
Park. Not trying to fan flames, but I'm coaching this year so I've thought about this exact thing. If you've ever skied a bdog edgeless, it forces you to use good technique or youre fucked. You can carve on soft snow exclusively, but otherwise you are are just pretending to have edges. Once you jump back onto skis with edges you are definitely more conscious of your edge control.
Jompcock is right about it making you better in the sense of being conscious of edging and maintaining good form but maybe not so much about carving with detuned skis lol.
Brad, I also think youre right about the amount of detune dictating this whole idea. I ski in VT and hit a tip to tail detune on my park skis and I can absolutely carve the first few days on ice, but after that its basically controlled skidding no matter how good my form is.
Either way, you both seem to know what you're talking about. Respect both sides
and OP, seems like you got your answer but those skis are fine and if you baby park skis like race skis you're fucking your ability to have fun skiing park. skis are tools, not trophies (except HG RIP).
