Thanks for the pics! Tried to recreate the same angles and shadows as yours with my narrow width Atomic Hawx boots on Attack 13s but seems like the same toe and wing except for the DIN window shape.

I did not notice a difference between the new ones and my older ones on snow. Might be slightly lighter but also not on the same ski and the new ski is heavier than the old so its hard to tell.

They changed the heel level and added a window so that you can see the DIN window and adjust them with the heel open or closed. That also saved a bit of weight, so the new bindings are a whopping 25gr lighter a side now.

They added the notched AFD screw to be able to completely eliminate themselves for being at fault for improperly set up AFD when installed now. Reports of “I set it and it’s loose the next day” were 99.9% the issue of not pulling back on the boot to wheellie/raise the toe and eliminate slack before adjusting the AFD. If you don’t eliminate slack, then it may measure different each time you put your boot back in. So now with the notched screw, the AFD can’t possibly move down by itself. All the issues of pre-releasing haven’t been because of there not being enough toe wing there, it has always been too much slack/movement in the toe because a low AFD. Markers have the same issue and same result if not set up properly.

Moving to the larger DIN spring just makes the Attack 14 an even great value vs other brands near that DIN and separates it more from the Attack 12 usually sold in packages.

The metal heel Attack 17 is just a revised Attack 16 with the same AFD screw and heel lever window mods, so it’s again 25gr lighter per side than the old 16. Raising to a 17 DIN allowed them to eliminate the Attack 18 again become a bigger value in a “greater than 16 DIN” market.

Forgot to add, there would be no difference in feel between the Attack 13 and 14 but there would be a difference going up to the metal heel versions like the Attack 16/17. About 100gr more and feel more damp and solid. With the new models out, I’ve scored Attack 16 for about 1/2 the price of a 14!

100gr plus heavier each side and the metal housing doesn’t transfer vibrations as much as the plastic housing of the Attack 13/14 heel.

Not a HUGE difference but noticeable and an easy way to add a bit of weight to lighter skis.

Think I paid around $120 US for my last 2 pairs of 16s this Fall as everyone blowing them out.

More metal construction along with higher DIN springs are the reason higher DIN bindings are more expensive to answer your latest thread although Attacks only vary about $60 retail between the 14 and 17GW.

Yeah sorry. My first pair was the original attack two 11 so bad the single piece heel. Then the older ones I mention was again the original attack 2 but 14 so a normal heel. First ones felt solid but the 14's we're creaky and didn't seem built very well

had the same problem myself. the afd kept lowering itself, making me prerelease all the time. now i adjust them once a week to keep them nice. hope they update it and make it hug the boot more.

Curious if you have the Attack2 binding as you can easily do a visual check on the AFD height by looking at the 2 mounting screws just above the AFD. When properly adjusted for a traditional alpine boot, the screw heads should be 1/3 to 1/2 covered over by the AFD.

If you just adjust an AFD without first lifting(wheelie) the toe by pulling back on the boot cuff to remove slack and THEN adjust the AFD, it will be different every time you put the boot in.

Yeah the attack 2s dont wrap the toe of the boot much compared to other bindings but i trust heads engineering. I think the lynchpin of the design is to have the boots toe remain rock solid between very tight and powerfully sprung wings but when the required torque is applied via a crash, only a small distance needs to be travelled by the toe of the boot to exit the front of the binding.



i know the sense you get from looking at the attack 2s. It looks like a very feeble connection between the boot and the bindings toe piece and wings. But after watching ppl like jesper tjader evan mceachran and colby stevenson hit features on the attack2s it becomes very clear (to me at least) that the design of the bindings is rock solid and the narrow boot-binding articulation is not the result of any sort of short sightedness; tyrolia (head) definitely know what they are doing.
