It is normal to not do a single trick/rail opening day right? I was planning on starting the season strong but once I actually got there I froze up and didn’t hit a single rail. How do I get comfortable again like I was last season?
ya its normal bro. if you werent feeling it that day then you werent feeling it, no shame in that. get your legs under you and start when youre ready. hit 1s and 3s both ways off of little side hits and rollers, practice buttering, ski switch a lot. every year i regret not getting started on my progression sooner but if ur minds not in the right place to progress and ski a little bit outside of your comfort zone then your chances of getting hurt increase imo.
Just start slow and don't be embarrassed to be do beginner tricks again. Warm up well. Then do some small 1s and 3s and some butters. Then find the easiest rail and just commit. It comes back really fast and after a few hours you will be back to your previous ability level. Also sometimes skiing with friends that are better than you can motivate you to try things first day. Not in a peer pressure way, just in the way that if your friends are trying stuff in the park eventually you will try a rail again, especially if you could do much harder stuff last year.
That's normal. My first day this year I stood at the top of the run for almost an hour before my friends told me they were thirsty but wouldn't go in until I did a rail. We weren't thirsty very quick after that
Totally normal.
My first day was spent just doing chairlift laps getting my legs back. Practiced switch a bit. I tried to go in the park but it was so crowded it wierded me out. There was a long line at the bottom of the tow rope. I 50/50 slid a tube a couple times before I couldn't take it anymore. Its better than nothing but I wanted to do more.
I had to keep telling myself that there are many more days ahead in the season. The crowd will ease as other resorts in the state open up and more terrain opens up.
All you have to do is watch Ross Imburgia try the stupidest, sketchiest, illogical tricks on to a freaking park bench and then you'll feel ready to huck yourself in to oblivion
