A story as old as time. I think my skis were mounted slightly forward from center. Im looking for insight from the ones of you that have gone through countless measurements of skis to tell me whether or not the way ive measured to determine this is a logical way to do the measurement. Ive measured along the base and attached pictures. Since the bindings are in the way on the top of the skis I didnt think measuring from the top was giving me an accurate measurement.
This is what I did: I ran tape along the entire base, then I clicked in the boots, lined up a piece of tape with the arrow for the boot sole center, wrapped it underneath so it intersected with the tape running lengthwise along the base. Measured the amount of ski in front of and behind the point of intersection of the tape. one ski I measured 91.5cm in front of the line and 91.8 behind. The other I measured 91.3cm in front and 92cm behind. This would indicate that both skis are mounted in front of center, and also that they are not mounted in the same position. However, when flipping the skis back over and measuring the amount of ski in front of and behind the hardware, the measurements match up exactly, both skis have 68.8cm in front of the toe piece and 64.8cm behind the heel piece. Because of the discrepancy I am not confident in the measurement along the base, so what is the best way to measure?
TL;DR: the base measurements would suggest that one skis is 1.5mm in front of center and the other is 3.5mm in front of center, also suggesting the bindings are not mounted in the same spot, but measuring on top the bindings seem to be in the same place on the ski. This leads me to believe that I HAVE NO CLUE THE BEST WAY TO MEASURE FOR CENTER ONCE THE SKIS HAVE ALREADY BEEN MOUNTED. so please tell me, what is the best way.
Regardless of the best way to measure, the lengths of ski in front and behind the binding hardware make me think the skis are the same length and that the bindings are mounted in the same spot on each ski, so, I think im gunna rock with it and hope that they are both at most mounted like 2mm in front of center, which I dont think will affect anything, as the attack heel piece has much more length and weight than the toe piece does, which I think adds a bit of effective length behind the heel but not in front. If you have no insight and just wanna tell me how big of a dumbass I am for not measuring for center myself before-hand, go right ahead! In retrospect I cant believe I didnt, I just left a note on the skis telling the tech to make sure to measure and not to use the printed line.
