Mounting the GF's Skis (ARW 106 UL)

alpinepleaseYo! My partner picked up the 106 UL in a 164cm and is stoked. Her only other ski is a JJ UL, mounted at factory.

She's an intermediate / advanced, age 32, has a style thats really spurred from riding rockered pow skis all the time (not carvy or steppy or traditional).

So, factory or freestyle line... that is the question - or somewhere in between?

Does she spin or ski switch? The traditional line on that ski isn't really very far back is it?

Haven't skied the UL version, but spent a lot of time on the last couple versions of that ski. I found them to be pretty unaffected by mount point. I ended up at -4 cm from true center on mine, and really liked that mount point. Similar to her, I ski pretty centered/get along with pretty forward mounts well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend -4 to anyone getting on that ski. But you won't go wrong anywhere within the two stock lines that should come marked on the ski.

I believe the two stock lines on that ski should be around -2.5 and -5 from center, so -4 basically splits the difference.

Agreed. I could notice a touch of swing weight difference closer to center but they largely skied the same.


For OP, we sell a lot of ARV/ARW series skis and even more traditional/directional skiers tend to like the freestyle mounting points on them.

Report: Shop just mounted it at the freestyle line, despite calling to confirm exactly where to mount, moments before mounting. It was after 4:20. So, I should have assumed anything goes at that point.

So, we are at the high line. Shop is chill as to offer to make it right and re mount if need be. Going to give it a shot.

How to explain this to the miss without psyching her out...

We need to sticky a PSA about marking your skis properly in preparation for a shop mount.

Just tell her that they’re mounted at the line that makes the skis feel the most balanced and will allow her to get the most outta of the skis and they’ll ride how they were designed to be ridden!
