HypeBeastDolan, did you read the article? It literally hypothesizes that it's because of norepinephrine release which causes pupil dilation. Norepinephrine is important for cognitive function. This might be too much for you to understand. It's literally like taking a stimulant...the stimulant causes release and inhibits reuptake of various catecholamines, one of which is norepinephrine. Your pupils dilate on stimulants. Your cognition notably increases. The pupils are only a marker as a result of chemicals in your brain/body.

So the Tldr is basically smart people have more endogenous norepinephrine floating around that improves their cognition and also gives rise to slightly more dilated pupils. Yayyyy another worthless study benefitting nobody.

But to be fair, there are probably ppl with large pupils who are very dumb and ppl with tiny pupils who are smart.
