I tried getting some faction prodigy 2.0 171cm and some stores i visted were out and couldnt get anymore from the supplier ended up having to get 177s instead

Thats a really broad statement. They don't have crane operators to pull the crates from the ships (Unionized workforce as well as skilled labor, hence can't just give that job to anyone) Also there aren't enough truckers to get the crates from port to their distribution centers (another skilled roll you cant just hand to anyone, you have to have a CDL). this is a multifaceted supply chain problem, not even going to speak to how other countries where brands get raw materials are struggling to continue to do so. its a breakdown along the entire product cycle.

I feel like all these supply chain issues will further accelerate the trend toward automation, as the overhead of automation will provide faster returns in an area where labor is more expensive than an area where labor is cheap. Obviously human labor is still needed but decreasingly on the physical manipulation side as the software and manufacturing methods get better.
Even with domestic manufacturing, there still needs to be the import of raw materials or the use of alternative materials. I could still see that simplifying the supply chain as there would be fewer buyers taking delivery of a larger volume of goods per capita.
Wait till stuff breaks at resorts. Snowmaking, lifts, grooming equipment. I’ve already had issues with parts and sourcing them. If it’s an odd ball part you could be in trouble.
Local ski shop by me had all their inventory in, but could not get anymore. So once they sell out of a ski or boot, that’s it for them.

I’m working in supply chain and sourcing - can tell you for sure it’s not any single sole issue. Hiring people is a problem for sure but that’s not causing the container shortage, or production shutdowns in China. It’s a cluster.
Just get the homeless people and pay them the sweatshop wages we pay Chinese and then we can make all the stuff we need here and dont have to worry about shipping any of it.

Burton has had quite a limited supply of certain pants & jackets this season. Asked them when they're going to restock and got an honest answer telling me it's due to covid related supply shortage and no restock date available.
Also ordered a pair of skis and two pairs of Pivots over a month ago from a supplier who has made their order to Look way back in the summer months, and we are still waiting for the Pivots. Look hasn't commented this in any detail, just stated there's a production delay. Or at least the shop didn't tell me about it. It's my go-to shop and one of the biggest shops in Finland so no doubts on them.
Has anyone heard this happening over the other side of the pond?
Worked in a shop in NZ this season. The entire shipment of salomon was delayed until *mid-august*, meaning (with lockdown) we only had september to try and clear an entire order of skis...
This is my 10th year in a ski shop and its crazy. We are out of rentals in certain sizes already and already low on some hardgoods this early in the season. Not to mention we cant special order anything for customers because the turn around time is so long.
Let me say this to help everyone thinking of buying anything ski or winter related. DO IT NOW!!
If you need anything go into a shop and grab it asap dont sleep on it.
Also side note, we are still waiting on some orders for the shop that were placed in February/March of this year.

again - labor supply isn't usually the issue here. Random small businesses not being able to find workers is not the same thing as too many containers stuck at the ports or a factory in china shut down.

Damn I'm just thinking about how hard Sierra at Tahoe is going to have it.
A bunch of their snowcats burned along with a maintenance building... they need several lift cables and I'm sure a bunch of other parts.

i was taking to the manager at my local shop, he was saying snowboard gear has actually been more backed up then ski gear not sure why. Apparently most things are fine but outerwear may be an issue
Finally got The Call from the shop yesterday. They had ordered the batch in January and they got some of the ordered products yesterday, not rhe full batch. Pivots are very hard to find in the europe, even the biggest online retailers have very random stock, like 3 week delivery times in b95s and only have b75 & b130 in stock...
The go-to shop of mine had already placed the 22-23 season's Pivot order a month ago. It's crazy.

Honestly, I’m surprised it has taken this long to feel the effects. I remember in australia in 2020, so many shipments did not make it and inventory was super thin. I, also, noticed that USA prices seemed more expensive and inventory seemed less last year compared to usual.
I went to powder7 in golden this past week and they did not have nearly as many skis on the wall as I expected.
