True. It seems like everyone kind of capitalized on their opportunity to shoot passion projects since it was like the only thing you could really do when covid was really at its peak. I’m honestly so grateful for all the riders that got after it, I’ve never been this stoked to ski in my life tbh

Maybe! While I can't really pick a specific year, but I feel like roughly 2014-2017 is the top contender for me about best periods for ski films. BE Inspired, Pettit at his prime, Faction's edit series and "This is home", LoS's same difference and Passenger, Sammy C starting to tear up the BC, Parker White and Chris Logan killing it with Big Picture, Jesper Tjader's madness, Armada's Oil and Water, the resurgence of T Hall, a few last Stept street edits, Wallisch started Good Company, and the Bunch was pretty new and different as well. Almost forgot all the fucked x games real ski street edits.

Most of those guys are still putting out really high quality stuff 2018-now, but for the first few years everything was just so new. All the sudden everyone did doubles, everyone was creative, everyone went big, (almost) everyone had a crazy style. It just felt like the overall level of skiing skyrocketed. I remember losing my mind about what Phil was doing in the streets in Oil & Water, Henrik in the air in Road to Zion and BE Inspired, and Pettit in huge natural lines in his 2015 rocket man edit.

I guess I'll have to wait to see what Henrik drops, but for me I guess what I'm saying is quality now is probably as good or better than 2014-2017, but level or progression then just seemed insane. Everything blew my mind bc I'd never seen it before. Like IMO a 2014 edit is comparable to 2021, but 2007 is far off from 2014.

Yeah. I mean everything you said is true I was mostly just acknowledging the quantity of the edits dropping, not really how groundbreaking they are. But yeah I mean everything you said is true, except the doubles thing. Sammy was doing triples in 2010 don’t know if that’s a testament to his level at the time or how deep into the double era we were. Other than that I agree with pretty much everything.

the projects that carried skiing content louder than anything else through the 2000s, powerhouses like pbp, level 1, msp, and smaller outfits like rage, nimbus, etc were dying or dead or sold out by 2014. and they really were the backbone of skiing for the first golden age. there were only a few ways to watch the pros ski before 2010, live at events and contests or via film tours in the fall.

i would call it 2005-2012 really as the first ”golden age”, then around 2012 the internet as a platform for high quality ski content grew legs to support the culture in a way that started to replace the yearly physical cycle of films. i know the internet was around and facilitated skiing long before then, but it wasn’t until after 2010 that camera quality, editing software, bandwidth and internet speed, disemination of passion to make independent and amateur ski content, etc all collided to change how we share and consume ski content.

not that 2014-17 didn’t have amazing projects, there have never not been amazing projects. but i would argue those years had a lot of growing pains as skiing was transitioning away from the format of the 2000s. many of those online projects were the start of the wave we’re fully riding now, i just don’t think it was quite there yet. because as influential as those projects were, i think that we will look back more fondly upon the more recent years, around and before 2020 and onward, because now the online platform is more whole - you have high quality videos coming from both professional and amateur crews. it’s not just the superstars that are defining skiing anymore, it’s kids in the midwest with an HPX.

Feel like golden generation changes with definition. For young kids, that’s probably right now. Imagine being 13 and watching Finito instead of Stept, Level 1, and PBP. That’s probably why kids go crazy for zootspace, that’s their generations refresh/JOSS/Network

As cool as a whole ‘thug’ era was, I find it so cool how many different distinct styles have emerged and are going strong. Definitely in a new golden age.

Yea you're right, I was thinking the way doubles made their way into the BC and even street parts and it seemed like everyone and their mom could dub 10, but yea totally Sammy was already doing trips and Jon Olsson had been doing them for years.
