Years ago i met a bunch of them who rented a condo in canyons village in PC to throw a big party and spill beer all over the nice carpeted floors in the presidential suite. None of them were there to ride, they were just there to party. It was almost like they were proud of being some sort of clique of salt lake U who were too cool to ride. Ive seen it before, like when a person says physics is boring because they are too dumb to understand it. Its pretty pathetic imo.

Also as far as the thread idk. SLC os a city nkt a ski town. Sure it's got a big outdoor community but you dont need to ski. Itd be like expecting everyone in reno or denver to ski.

It is weird when people work at a mtn and dont ride. Especially in small mtn towns or if they actually live at the mtn. I see how it could still be fun but damn. I try and nicely nudge those people toward trying it or at least getting out a day or two a sesson. Got my friend out last year. Only 2 days he rode but was good he at least got on the hill outside of work.

I live by the beach, and plenty of my friends don’t surf which bums me out.. it has a higher learning curve though and can be cold even in the summer sometimes.. plus since the weathers usually nice in California everyone can play whatever sport or skate year round.

I don’t understand though how you couldn’t be into any snow sports living in the mountains though.. like do you really want to be at indoor gyms most of your days?

This was me but in Bozeman. Paid ~$36,000 for my Freshman year due to outta state... at least I got some fluffy Montana turns in right...? Right...?

Isn't it a pain if you aren't living in UT full time? Lots of people at school out here go home or otherwise out of state in the summer or winter breaks

i didn't go there but from what I read, you basically have to prove you were in utah for 12 consecutive months while leaving the state less than 30 days. there are a bunch of ways you can prove it, for example you can provide a bank statement showing you made in-person purchases every 4 days. if you want to leave for longer, give your friend a debit card and have them do it.

it seems like a pain, but grand scheme it's a small price to pay for one year and the result is a $20k/yr discount in tuition

Yea, but for every beautiful mountain town with a ski area there are 10 without. And the cost of living, especially real estate, goes way up with lifts close by.

You guys would be shocked to find out how many people throughout the state of Utah, both in Salt Lake and near Park city, don't ski....almost like it's a sport for the white and wealthy and everyone else gets to work for it/pay for it...weird. The U is also starting starting get a better reputation in terms of academics and most people i know who graduated from there have great jobs, great lifestyles, and didn't just "live to ski". That's also weird how people go to college for, you know, other stuff besides recreation

not everyone has had the opportunity to grow up skiing and riding and are intimidated to try and admit they are new/not good at it and they don’t want to take the risk to learn and fall in love w a new passion. So they hate on it and call it stupid and say things like “I’m just here for the party” and act like idiots

That’s not awful comparatively. I went to UNH and not being from NH, had to pay out of state tuition. The school said that my family had to prove NH residency for 2 whole years to be considered for in state. Kinda sucked but whatever.

Yeah i forgot to mention in the op that all these kids were loaded. They were taking shots of patron and wearing super preppy “my daddy is a lawyer” shit like burberry and vineyard vines.

I would never diss on ppl who didnt have the money to ski or board, but these people were not poor. I mean they are in college and renting huge presidenytial
suites at westgate and acting like they were jet setters who were better than people who were in the mountains to ski/ride.

Yeah. I get it when resort housekeepers and shit dont ride bc they have to save their money so they can send it home and shit but it is amazing when people have a free pass and the money to buy ski equipment but they dont bother.

It is kind of insane i agree. I feel bad for ppl who buy into the idea that college is going to grow their intelligence. Like yeah it cant hurt, but for fuck sake a college education is not worth more than 10k a year in my opinion. You can learn everything a professor can teach you just by using youtube and wikipedia and maybe a few good textbooks.

People def need to weigh the debt against it. Sure for some jobs it's legit necessary, but god damn that's a lot of money to owe for the rest of your life from being that young.

Also fuck our garbage for profit education system. Colleges raise tuition because they can not because they need to. Just think of all the bullshit administrative costs and stuff with school. Also it's bullshit that the government has those loans set up. Ridiculously easy to get and no matter what you're paying that shit back. It's pretty fucked. If kids couldn't borrow that much money colleges would at least charge less.

I didn't go to college so I'm not one of those people bitching just because they have debt. I just think the system is super fucked. It was really till the last 10-15 years people started looking at not going to college as being okay.

Thank jebus I didn't go though. Would have fucked my life. I support at least some student loan forgiveness, wouldn't really care if we canceled most of it. If we have the money to constantly bomb brown people in random countries people couldn't find on a map I think we could handle it.

It would be sick if college was extremely cheap and therefore accessible.

America is doing it pretty wrong on college imo. At least in society the trades are actually getting pushed and not everyone is saying "well you need to go to college or you're fucked, even if you don't know what you want to do"

College can be a good tool but it also fucks a lot of people financially.

Its mostly right of passage kind of shit tho. Anything you learn in college you could learn thru youtube, and 9 times out of 10 the articles and youtube videos teach difficult concepts better than professors do at princeton.



princeton is full of a bunch of non-stem professors who sucked at physics back in hs and uni so they lecture in long verbose sentences to try to pass their specialties material off as conceptually rigorous, when in reality a 5 yr old dolan would be able to understand it.

the stem professors could justify their asses. The rest of the professors were bigger fucking idiots than paul krugman.

You gotta be insanely motivated to spend hours every week doing engineering assignments, for instance. Plus if youre a physics or chem student u wouldnt have access to a lab, or if you're an architecture student you wouldnt have a professor to critique your work. And at the end of it you wouldnt get that certain piece of paper. As a university student, I have to agree that it is often a scan, to a certain extent. But the idea that college is a scam because u could learn everything online is silly to me. Also I don't believe that a university like Princeton is full of stupid professors. Often they're bad at teaching but very knowledgeable in their field of research (which is why they were hired in the first place)

Im not saying college is completely worthless. But i dont think any college is worth more than 10k a year, ignoring name recognition and networking.

If nobody knew of princeton and only poor idiots went there the actual 4 yr education they give you would be pretty much worthless.
