Its was 2013 and PBP was done, STEPT was burned the fuck out and skiing was starting to move away from big production houses to independent film makers. Skiing was kind of in a weird spot as things moved to online media and the culture was changing. There was definitely some trepidation on who will pick up the torch and what it would mean.
And you know who stepped up and threw down one of the most awesome, no fucks given bangers of a ski film?
Hood Crew.
Yep these guys put out Freed The Streets which is basically like taking a blender and putting in the vibe of Pop Yer Bottles, meat hucking danger of STEPT and all-killer-no-filler content of PBP and the degeneracy of my brother when he visited me my freshman year of college and putting that shit on ice crush.
Yeah the tricks were not the most technical, the style maybe not as refined but fuck it these guys hucked some bad ass shit and I cant think of another movie that makes me smirk the entire way through and get stoked to get some snow under my skis. Especially today when we have to sit through 3 min of 'artistic' B roll just to watch a few clips of sick park bench shredding, lets sit back and enjoy the days when a crew of degenerates picked up a camera and went hell bent grabbing as many insane shots as possible in a season and cramming it all into a somewhat cohesive video. I feel like when we look back on the 2 decades of newschool skiing we kind of overlooked this crew and its a shame because they definitely carved a place and time in our sport.
