Replying to Balancing Money & Skiing
Hi all,
So I’m at a weird point in my life. I turned 21 this year and frankly it’s been the most confusing year of my life. Not to victimize myself but a lot of shit has happened. I lived in a closet to save money, halfway dropped out of college, my girlfriend and I of 2+ years broke up, I got into a car accident, and I have now moved back in with my parents in MN from OR where I had been for the last 3 years.
I’m back home just trying to relax and hang out with old friends as much as possible. I’m working a pretty chill job at a local coffee shop and just trying to focus on myself. My family has been good and supportive I’m lucky to have them.
All this being said I’m at a spot where I can kind of decide what my next step is. I was going to school for 5 semesters majoring in math. I’m thinking of transferring to a college closer to home (Duluth) and trying to get into their Mech Eng program. I’ve been accepted into the school but not the program. I think it would be good for my mental to be a bit closer to home and my support system and yet another part of me wants to move to SLC or Bozeman and possibly continue out there. The price is holding me back as well though.
What are y’all’s dream jobs? What’s something I could do that would allow me to travel to different places for months or so at a time?
I’d say my “dream” layout goes something like this (will probably try to spend my 20s doing so)
-MN July-Aug
-TRAVEL Sept
-SLC mid October-mid Nov
-MN mid Nov-Dec
-SLC/CO/BC Jan-April (or other big mountain skiing)
-Hood May-June
I also know I will want a wife and family some day so I am trying to figure out a way to start saving money so in 5-8 years I could have a down payment on property or a house.
I was talking to a guy that is a heavy equipment engineer for a paving company and has winters completely off. I think this would be super awesome. I’d probably do this and then just take a van or something out west for the winter.
I like building things and design and I’m good at math so I think engineering would be cool. I’m also into somewhat expensive projects and hobbies like cars and shit as well.
Have how you guys been? Is the future weighing on your minds? What kind of plans do you guys have set up? What jobs are you working/working towards? Are you going to school or no?
I know it’s been an incredibly tough year for all and there are times I need to focus on the good a lot more than I do.
Y’all are loved!
