LonelyJesus how tall is your wing for that to even be a question?
Homie out here like
Flynnski
TiernanOSullivandream car right there, I should buy a 2005 sti and lift it, than get chains and beffy tires and bam, the mountain in my playground through any storm! /J
mystery3You want dedicated snow tires for whole mountain playground. Chains are not that great and will damage your car if you try any kind of performance driving with them installed.
TiernanOSullivanyou would have to be on some other shit to not know to take your chains off. they sit in your trunk until the time comes to break out the bad boys. but who would lift an sti anyways its a waist of Japanese craftsmanship, if you want a snow day mobile get the lexus gx 470 and lift that, its got 3 rows to fit all the homies. the sti post was a joke, hence the /j

Twinjibber77Thule Motion XT (L) on an Evo X with Thule Aero Crossbars/Fit Kit. This setup worked fantastically!!
I was paranoid about trunk wing clearance as well! I had to buy this from a local shop because they let me size all the display models they had by laying them on my rails. In the end, I had it placed so perfectly that there was about 1/4-1/2" gap between the wing and the bottom of the box. The Evo wing is actually raised in the center and mine had a factory aero kit lip on the top which added to my anxiety.
There's a dude on IG who I talked with throughout my planning process (his car looked sick), so I had that going for me. I'll try to find his handle and a few more pictures of my car in winter mode so you can see how awesome it looked.
Things I didn't think about which ended up being a bigger deal:
-The factory bevels on the door frames (for fit kits) were not as spaced out as I would have liked them. I don't think even 5" more inches would have made that much of a difference, just peace of mind. Regardless, never had any issues.
-If you don't get one of the newer boxes with a raised slit down the bottom, you might make contact with your fin antenna. The Evo fin has an actual antenna connected to it as well, so I lined the box up over the fin and took the antenna off for the winter (leaving fin). Additionally, these new boxes (at least from Thule) are tapered up for trunk clearance because most SUVs and crossovers (4Runner/Suburban/Volvo) have a weird trunk Spoiler thing? I don't even know what to call it.
-The month after I purchased it, I had hardcore buyers regret that I should have gotten a smaller box (not as tall/wide). After taking 3-4 people to the hill and one long road trip I realized that this was the perfect size. Evo trunk is a shoe box, give that a google for your amusement.
Twinjibber77So uhhhh.. apparently I have a whole 2 pics from this era and they both suck!
PimpChimpinGod I wish I could get an evo, market is crazy currently unfortunately. I’ll Stick to the stis
