The industry has slowed down to the point of banner ads and year long bans on NS. Full tilt is going away. Jiberish uses cheap sweatshirts and puts out garbage every year. It won't be long before NS collapses deeply into the parent company and youre all forced to use my chad alternative - newschoolerz.

What about the days of siver cartel? Thall in his prime? Poorboyz? Wallisch dick riding 24/7 on NS? Level 1? Joss?

We are living in the dystopian future of Skiing.

Imagine if a CERN particle accelerator experiment changed the molecular structure of snow on earth such that it were not slippery. Now THAT would be the end. Pretty much hype up 'till that point.

What the problem is is that this sport is becoming less accessible and the word “free” is being taken out of freeskier, especially on the comp scene, the sport has become so regimented that, in my eyes, the sport is losing touch with its roots and isn’t so much about having fun and getting fired up, it’s about training and keeping your Instagram followers happy. What I see being a huge issue is how most places that had public accessible features such as halfpipes and slope style lanes are all pay to access now which is only making the sport that much more unattainable and catering to the tourists/teams. I donno, as a former coach, I see skiing going the way of Hockey real fast.

Idk man, it kinda feels like more people are into skiing than ever... and people are going bigger than ever.

You just need to tune into key progressions of the sport and not get hung up on "People are skiing differently than me so the whole sport's fucked!"

You don't need to sink the whole ship cuz you're insecure about getting left behind.

The people like that in snowskating (and aggressive inline as @FruitBootPro has pointed out) threaten the very existence of our little niche extreme sports.

I do have to acknowledge that we are in a very cool place for content creation and the ability to showcase all the talent out there, skiing has never had it this good and in that regard the future is very bright and is what will keep our sport alive.

-DanAs someone who lived thru the so called golden era let me say this- we are all presented with a choice here. You can become a bitter old head who thinks everything new and different is whack compared to when you first fell in love with skiing, OR you can appreciate it for what skiing has to offer you now and not bother to compare the two. Comparison is the thief of joy. I loved 4bi9 and Stept, I loved HG and love the bunch, I love Forre and Child Labor. It’s all the same shit just different people applying themselves to it and wearing different clothes. Same as with new music, you need to give it a few tries to truly appreciate what you’re experiencing. After that, you can feel like how I feel. The real golden era is now.

The "golden era" is so subjective. I'm the youngest person on this site and to me the cool and new shit that was coming out was the bunch and things like that. There was this illusive feeling around brands like on3p and vishnu. Things like that. Everybody has a different mental image of what the Golden age of skiing was. It's always gonna be someone's golden age the sports not dying because you don't like it anymore

Lol aggressive inline is a whole 'nother can of worms and like I said before, OP's point is actually pretty true for that sport. But that's part of why I think this "we suck now" argument is bullshit with respect to skiing, because I know what it actually looks like, and skiing undeniably still has the sauce.

Idk man, just drove around the country and hung out with about 1000 people that seemed to be very alive and in love with skiing. That’s in 5 towns.


Maybe its dying around you, or feels like that? If that’s the case please be the change you want to see.


Some ideas for you or for anyone:
Hit up the people making the 2-3 movies you are most excited about and put together a premeire night. Work with your local hill to host an early season rail jam, or any rail jam. Make an edit with some friends. Support brands that are doing what you want to see done. Share videos you love. Make sure the vibe at your park is good. Say hi to strangers when you are waiting to drop, encourage people trying new stuff, hike rails and learn a trick together.

So many options for big or small things that can really make a difference. Just gotta make the effort instead of letting things fall by the wayside. Andy Parry does it better than pretty much any other singular person. Always inspired by his love and passion and effort. Even if you can’t put together major things like him, the small stuff really adds up and has potential to compound.

my main account has been perma banned for 10.5 years and I literally worked with NS this spring never give up on your dreams kid

however the execs at the resort I work for have a "goal" of $200 day tickets which is pretty wild and I do believe skiing will become as exclusive as sports like equestrian and sailing in the next decade or two so maybe just give up idk

My golden era is when I had a close knit Crue we'd ski all the time. .. and now I'm the only one who still does.... I find my self skiing alone more I miss having a posse bombing down a run just jibbing and hot doggin all over the place. But that's what happened to me.


Also golden era included better knees

I have time now to elaborate.

I'm getting older, I don't ski as much, but every time I go I feel like there is less of a distinct "park culture". We used to do gaper days and hike features with randos. I feel like the actual park rat lifestyle isn't as distinct? Maybe that's just mount snow. I think this is because park skiing has been divided into so many different niches that it only *seems* less homogeneous. You probably don't even remember but some years ago we actually shredded snow together. My homies don't ski, I pull up to mount snow nowadays and it feels like no one is down to rip laps with a random 23 year old. Maybe I'm just old as fuck and not cool, but like i distinctly remember shredding with randoms literally every time I skied.

Could be just me, I'm not trying to be a nihilist because I know ski culture isn't dead, I just feel like because it's growing, it's got less of a community feel. Anyone else feel this or notice this?

nobody is going to convince me that my siver cartel gear that fell apart SUPER easy should be looked at today as the peak... You wont see me rocking Salomon 1080s and Arnette Goggles anytime soon... PoorBoyz hasnt made anything for skiing in 10 years, and Joss hasnt been a thing since what.. 2009? 2010?

in 2010&2011 I was literally using a flip phone. I was backcountry skiing with fritschi freerides and Dalbello Krypton Pros.



We all have nostalgia for those times, but a decade or two is a LONG time, and things have changed a lot.

The fact of the matter is, I first got on this website at probably 13 or 14 and Im now 34. I have seen a lot of changes in skiing... but Im still fucking stoked.

Skiing isnt dead. Its just different.
