Replying to Cliche boot talk (help appreciated)
Hey guys, I realize this is so played out, but here goes:
I've been contemplating boots for three seasons now, and am going to finally bite the bullet.
NOT asking for the Cinderella shoe
I went to a boot fitter today and going to a different one on Saturday
I just want to make my time there worthwhile, so what should I ask/things to think about?
That's really it
Additional gabber/too long to read:
Some things I'm thinking about, if anyone is willing to take a crack at it:
First off, 21, 5'9", 155lbs, 26.5, 97 last
Wannabe aggressive big mtn skier, coached at Woodward(pc), Alta, Hood, Scum Valley
(yeah I oughtta know more about boots...)
Jeffery 96's resort/ revolt 121 backcountry
Toyed with idea of wtr boots(ascendant, hawx, Lange's ones, etc) but have heard you dont get optimal performance. Been in a Lange RX130LV and have grown accustomed to a progressive recreational race boot. They were hand-me-downs but (i think) I like the way they ski. No wall, nice and progressive all the way thru.
I found out today, (having never been fitted for boots before) , that my foot is a 26. My clapped out rx's are a 27.5 ( also found out half size shells dont change, just liner thickness. Kinda cool to me. Does this mean a full size is more responsive than a half, due to less liner?) I've had problems with too much room and just stuffed a shoe sole down there and it's been fine since.
So ok, going down a size, shell work, custom footbeds, and liners after the stock ones die and the shell is broken in, will make anything feel miles better.
But I'm so caught up with what type of boot to focus on!
The fitter discussed differences between shell materials, vaccum fits, plug boots, etc. Ended up liking fischer rc4 podium gt 130's and Lange rs130, and not liking FT first chairs. Partly because of what I'm accustomed to, last/toebox, and flex patterns. But I told myself that I wanted a more freeride oriented boot all last season, and not to go back with essentially a masters race boot, as I'm going to be hitting cliffs, zipper lines, park jumps, rails, carving, touring, and everything inbetween.
I just want something extremely responsive and performance oriented, but that I can ski all day. Maybe a proper rx in a 120 over 130?
Any suggestions or things to focus on would be greatly aporeciated. thank you if you've made it this far!
