Core to me represents keeping the culture of a sport alive without treating it in pretentious, commercialized type way.
I don’t think contests are core. Yet you can still be core and ski contests if you’re adding to the ski culture outside of it in a way that isn’t littered with Redbull type polished bullshit. Henrik for example and much others fit this sort of list.
I think there is a different facet of core that needs to be established though.
Scum core
Scum core is what many riders would be consider a toxic shit pond of negativity, but I digress brothers. I mean it can be all of those things but it serves purpose in many sports I believe. I’m not saying that I align with these views, but….
Scum core offsets the demise of ski culture itself. Without its negativity, cigarettes and h8. We would all slowly be on a path leaning even further into pretentious jock comp mentality.
I see the same thing in skate culture, it has been absolutely smashed up the bunghole by dorky corporate structures… and whose going to defend it? Definitely not these toxicly positive skaters / youtubers who bend the knee and just say. “Just go have fun!”. No, they’re not helping, and they will bend the knee to all of these shitty wolves in sheep’s clothing like Cariuma for example. Thankfully skate culture itself is littered with scum core individuals who don’t want to give in. ( People like giftedhater on YouTube are doing this very well )
Anyhow, although I don’t want to be one of them, I think these territorial, judgmental core slum rats are a necessary evil to offset the basic jock mentality at the top. So the next time one of these soldier pants wearin, ganja smokin, Dylan manly lookin ass, broken tooth lookin ass, stinky looking ass, itchi butt lookin ass, jetskis consumer lookin ass, come up to you,.. don’t get mad when they say you ski like shit, when they steal your skis, or when they say that you can never come back to the bone zone. Instead tell them thank you.
