Will 112 be good for widest ski?

Yes, that's a fine MT deep day ski. I'd ski it as my widest ski anyplace short of Japan no problem.

Then I switched to a 112 ski with a pintail. Good God it's so much more fun. Actually getting down in the pow is amazing. Makes the deeps seem deeper and the not so deeps seem deep.

Very important thing to note when skiing near Bozeman, pow days are rarer and rarer every season, yet the number of people on pow skis every day stays the same.

If you ski pow skis every day, then every day is a pow day. It's a very specific mindset and is complimented by the ability to convince yourself that running just a baselayer and a shell on a -10F day is sufficient as long as you just hike faster.

112 is great waist for a manouverable pow ski.

Sinking in the pow sucks if you're on a full camber park ski or the like, because you will start to be dragged down.

But when you have skis that can handle it, it's heaven. Obviously more face shots. You get deeper in making it feel deeper. And it's easier imo to pivot, play around, and flick your skis. Especially with the pintail involved.

Not sure if I explained that well at all. Obviously just like everything in skiing it's a personal preference and style thing

In my experience, I'd prefer a 110ish ski for anything short of the very deepest and lightest days. A 110 with a modern shape and rocker profile will float just fine in deep pow, be less work to ski, and more capable as things get cut up. For inbounds, I've rarely found myself skiing above a 112 the last three seasons. Last season I skied the Reckoner 112 and 122 back to back inbounds a bunch and found that even on the deepest inbounds days of the year, I'd rather be on the 112.

That said, I love a stupid fat 120+ ski in the backcountry on deep days. When you're skiing slower, in tighter terrain in really deep snow, that float makes everything easier and more fun. And, inbounds, when its just a few (5-8) fresh inches on top of firm, a wider ski can keep you off the bottom and make things feel more bottomless. Different stokes for different folks, but the upshot is, the 112 is a really fun ski in deep snow.

I rock my Hojis at Bridger and Big Sky with no problem. I find 112 to be the sweet spot, they charge in deep pow and I can ski em in spring slush.
