K2 is slowly ruining the ski industry just like Icon and Vail. I have always had a opinion on this but since the recent announcement of the end of Full tilt boots, I have truly lost all respect I had for the brand. Big corporate taking out smaller businesses. Love to hear others thoughts on this.

I don't quite agree, but understand. The bottom line is to survive in the industry today, if you can't beat 'em, you have to join 'em. It's shitty but at least K2 still puts some resources into the core freeskiing market, unlike Salomon for instance. Also, in terms of long term (many decades) of heavy involvement in the progression of skiing and particularly freeskiing, I can't think of another company that has done more.

Lmao you don’t know anything about how skiing works do you. 90% of brands are part of huge corporate umbrellas. Sego, ON3P, and Moment are the only relevant brands I can think of that aren’t part of one. K2 Sports has owned Full Tilt since it’s inception as JLev explained in another thread. If they are losing money on the brand, of course they’re not going to keep pumping money in to it just because a bunch of kids want them to. It’s the same basic approach to finance, just on a much larger scale. If I own a bakery and a certain donut doesn’t sell, obviously I’m not going to continue wasting time and resources on making it. Skiing is all about money and how to make as much of it as possible with these big corps. Obviously it sucks but to say they’re ruining skiing makes you sound like an 11 year old who accuses people of hacking on Call of Duty because you’re ass at the game.

Disagree, while I may never have been a huge fan of their boots, their skis and artwork in the past few years have been really great.

I think you might be a little lost here, but FT isn't a smaller business, they have been owned by K2 for a long time.

K2 and the family of brands also support a ton of athletes, events, media platforms and other things within freeskiing. Yes, it's marketing but there are so many brands who do much less for the sport with their $$. Sure, they are a big company but they are one of the better ones in my books.

K2 is pretty awesome. Sure, they have corporate owners, but the brand still feels more connected to the sport than many. They employ a lot of great people (and great skiers), have a robust team of riders, and are consistently active in the sport.

It's hard for me to understand the anger behind them getting rid of the Full Tilt brand name. They're still going to make the boots.

I 100% understand OP what youre saying but sadly the ski industry is going away from smaller business and more to a larger business scale... We're honestly lucky that K2 picked up FT, Line, etc. back in the day cause they are at least gonna carry on the products that we love, rather than someone like spider who would simply just take some of the ideas. Hopefully someone can figure out a way to do this with SAGA

What if the boots end up being great and everyone loves them!? I think they could pull that off.. They probably do recognize the loyal Full Tilt customers they inherited when absorbing the FT brand. K2 probably lurking these threads rn. HI K2!!! DONT FUCK THIS UP!!!! 😁

What if...we wait to see what actually happens and then decide if it was good or bad? Outside that K2 is going to absorb the already owned-by-them Full Tilt brand - and that the boots will continue to be made - no one here outside K2 employees know what is going to happen. It's ok to let things happen before deciding what you think about them.

K2 just makes heavy ass, deadweight feeling skis. No problem there, just not for me.


Vail however doubled prices of the Drifter pass and made it the “Epic Pass” during Covid-19. A time where people had significantly less money and needed an outlet like Skiing more than ever. Then they downsized the terrain parks at all the East coast mountains. So Fuck them. BOUNS ROUND: I got a “speeding ticket” on my skis the first (and last) time I visited Vail mountain. They said I was straight lining and that’s not allowed anywhere on the hill. Fucking lame. Don’t defend that dickhead corporation.

ppl in action sports go insane over shit like this and it's pretty sad, huge bummer that K2 is just putting the FT models into their own lineup now but the kids in this sport nowadays think it's the end of the world and conclude that K2 is le evil dad ski corporation that is ruining everything "core" bc they don't know jack shit about the history of this sport

Nowadays in general kids assume anything that isn't "core" brand twintips or full tilts = lame and bad
