Snowplowing Controversy

As much as you dweebs want to make skiing out to be some beautiful form of self expression and 🌠art🌠 it is still a sport at the end of the day. You still need incredible athletic prowess to do it at a level where companies will actually PAY YOU and you can either have a segment in a profitable movie or do well enough in competitions that you make income through prize winnings. I'm not sure who all needed to read that because I thought it was obvious but apparently not.

Wokeness and virtue signaling are more “in” in skiing than 6XL ever was, and rich white girls have been acting like idiots on Instagram for years now. These are just two unfortunate facts of life.

I never said she was a pro. That's why I put quotation marks on it. I just said she got free skis, aka being SPONSORED. My point was that a lot of your favorite skiers are also just SPONSORED, everyone loved Siver's recent edit and he's not a paid pro, 95% of everyone in zootspace is not a paid pro, and you wouldn't try and call them out for that.

No one cares if you claim you are a better skier than Mckenna (nevermind that in park skiing that is entirely subjective), being a SPONSORED skier is not about whether you can do one more 180 than someone, it's about whether you can work with a brand to create content to promote their product. Mckenna does that, you don't and probably couldn't. I'd much rather watch a video of her doing a straight air shifty with style than some random hucking something.

No one is disrespecting Mike, people are allowed to have different opinions and disagree on stuff. Hell, Mike is one of my favorite skiers of all time and I'm pretty neutral in this debate, I just think you shitting on female skiers is not good for the discourse.

Really? Skiing ability is irrelevant when discussing someones take on a COMMENT ABOUT SKIING?! I'm pretty sure that is the MOST RELEVANT thing to look at. ACTUAL pro skiers tend to ACTUALLY be good at skiing. Ones status as a pro is indicative of their experience with the ski community. A pro skier has gone to trade shows, gone to movie premieres, represented a brand, talked to thousands of people about skiing. They would know, better than just about anyone, what is and isn't tactful when discussing their sport. And since skiing ability is what separates the pros from the rest of us, I'd say it's a pretty relevant part of the discussion.

Hornbeck was not trying to be a gatekeeper.. It was a misunderstanding. Ya'll are going to see Michael Jordan telling someone how to better their jumpshot and take it as GATEKEEPING? I actually have always liked Mckennas skiing on IG, but she definitely comes off as basic after making a big deal out of something like that..

Look I think it’s a bit gatekeeper-y myself but I think many of us are missing the message. He’s talking more about flowing through the park, coming up behind someone and then they speed check and it totally messes your speed and you hit them/have to bail.

That happened to me so many times last year. I get it. I don’t think it was so much the snow plow as much as the speed check.
