My friend in high school used to eat an entire apple every day. He would only have seeds and the stem left, which he would then throw at people around the classroom

I was thinking that, but it could be furniture grade PVC that comes in colors. It's a thing I kid you not, which also makes it considerably less core if true. The little flanges where he attached the top looks like a furniture fixture.
I'm using mom's old dining room table as a desk. It's massive, highbrow dutch, and ruined long ago. Not terribly core. However I'm going to say bigger is better here, this thing is 12' x 4' and I never pull in the leaves to save space.

So it is abs and we just bought a ton from Home Depot. We 3D printed the mounts to connect them to the desk
