Woodward Allegations.

dan38If you haven't heard there were some "child rape" allegation directed at a Woodward PA counselor. Essentially posters also claimed that Woodward payed off the family and other staff not to say anything. Woodward confirmed that an incident did occur but were super vague with the details of the situation. Plenty of calls got put in to the local police department over there but has anyone heard if any charges were filed? Any updates at all?

I saw it in the "News" tab but no updates in almost a month hence me making this thread to see if anything came of it.

It seems like something shady probably happened but that news thing and the other theead were people going off with wild allegations.

Saying there was a video of it but woodward paid off the kids to delete it. I mean m, that sounds very unlikely. As with anything people get on their jump to conclusions mats right away.

Other people were just posting videos of people falling skating like "Ha! You can fall skateboarding. Take that woodward!"

When a bunch of people who weren't there, have 0 information get way too revved up about something. "Cancel woodward" was a cringey account name too.

The fact that the police have been involved since pretty much the beginning I'd go with that over spicy conspiracies by people on the internet who weren't there.

You guys gotta be really careful when you talk about stories like this online and especially alleged sexual abuse cases regarding minors and an organization. I wouldn't be shocked to find out someone reached out to NS to have that article taken down until a full investigation is completed or its resolved out of legal stuff if you get what I'm saying. Cant just say stuff like "Oh woodward paid the family to hush up" if its true or not because that can land people in hot water.

Hence why I put “posters claimed that…”. No official police information in that post hence why I’m posting this follow up to see if we have any real news or if it was mainly internet storytelling.

The same story has been circulating around a ton of skate forums as well. I HIGHLY doubt this comes back to NS in anyway. If anything maybe it’s come back to the OP of the article on here but even that is VERY unlikely.

In order to prove libel the written communication has to actually be false, claimant has to prove the author knew it was false, and there has to be damages resulting from it as well. They might start throwing cease and desist letters at everyone under the sun to try to shut people up through intimidation but there’s going to be very little teeth in those claims if the underlying allegations are even somewhat accurate.

I mean, you can sue for just about anything. It may not have any merit, but it would be a headache even if it is very unlikely that Woodward in this scenario would win anything or have a ruling in their favor. If I had to guess it could be any or all of the following three things.

1. Avoiding any sort of legal headache
2. Avoiding losing ad partners
3. Avoiding the crazy sort of shit that gets posted in those sort of threads. Dolan would probably be posting paragraphs about age of consent and other bullshit. Not a great look for the site either

Under Section 230, Newschoolers is protected by the posts members of the website create when the website displays a steady pattern of self-moderation. Unless Newschoolers personally hosts and brings attention to the alleged child pornography rape video, the parent company would receive a court order to remove the content from their servers. Newschoolers opens itself up to more risk in their contractual agreement with the parent company rather than legal risk. So as far as these threads go, Newschoolers is at zero risk here.

As for the content members create themselves, this is tricky because Woodward would have to prove this specific post resulted in damages to their company, a major component in a libel case. Woodward would then have to prove the account holder's information which would require Newschoolers' parent company's cooperation which is very unlikely as it would be unenforceable unless the circumstances were argued in front of a judge successfully to be an exceptional case. If Newschoolers were still privately owned, they would shit their pants and hand you over in a heartbeat but they are no longer in power of those decisions.

In other words, continue on. This thread is legal.
