I’ve been looking at camcorders for awhile now, can’t seem to understand how tha fuck people transfer from tape to digital files. I know there’s mods you can get for vx1000s and 2000s but do they work for other(wayyyyy more affordable) camcorders?

I've been using the Roxio video converter and it's worked great so far, its got a bunch of different ports so its worked for both of the random old ass camcorders I've picked up from savers
It's like 50$ on amazon or something I think

depends on your camera. i have a little samsung mini dv which has a firewire port. i use a firewire 800 out of the camera along with a firewire 800 to thunderbolt adapter to plug it into my 2012 macbook pro. if you have a newer mac you can get a second adapter for thunderbolt to usbc. not sure about pc but you would probably just need a different firewire 800 adapter to use with the same firewire 800 cord. on my mac i import the tapes using imovie.
