Gmeister25I'm looking for a 105ish underfoot freeride ski for inbounds and freeride comps only. I ski at Stowe and I don't care about a weight limitation, I'm thinking about the Revolt 104, Nomad 105, J skis Hotshot, QST 106, and Big Horn 106 (not a joke). Does anyone have any good suggestions or recommendations?
I’m not sure what freeriding looks like at Stowe since I’ve never been, but let me give you some recommendations based off of my experience freeriding in Europe.
I wouldn’t ski any of those that you mentioned except for the QST 106. Freeriding requires a focus on dampness, maneuverability and power. The skis you mentioned are all too soft and cannot be driven as hard as competing requires them to be. Personally I would opt for something like a Moment Commander 108, a Sego Cleaver Comp or a K2 Mindbender 108Ti. These 3 are all very capable of skiing at asshole-puckering speeds, while still being maneuverable enough to ski right lines and get air time. With my opinion out of the way, what sort of competitions are you looking to compete in? What do the venues look like? How do you like to ski?
