CaseyIt’s only on NS that it’s considered like a ‘rival’ forum. Or you know maybe it used to be when forums were relevant and anything like that mattered. Honestly it’s just the park vs Big mountain crowds talking shit at each other I don’t think it’s ever been about the films
Lolhahabrushthe movies will get you asleep faster than sleeping pills and both of them just take the money instead of giving back to skiing. never forget when wme sued l1 because they used warrens voice in refresh...
SendyMcSendyfaceI've met Todd Jones, and he's an entitled asshole. So's Tim Durtschi. Also the movies are all bland as hell. Always the same type of shit, year after year. They're good fun to show people who aren't super into skiing (as @Butterytips69 has just discovered, not everyone is down for Zootspace and chill).
WoFlowzThe films suck if Todd Jones kid has one of the longest segments the movie sucks
XCFor me it's that I see their movies nowadays as boilerplate formula. I don't feel the creativity and that's what I appreciate in edits. Plus, music and SFX are HUGE for me and whoever has been selecting the music for the past while just picks terrible music (again, IMO). So when a large scale operation just creates the same ol same ol and it's bland... people deep in our community aren't going to be fans. That's not to say the riders don't do just some amazing riding. It's more about why I don't like the post-production.
That being said, you can't ignore and fully lack appreciation for TGR and Warren Miller. In a lot of ways they were groundbreaking. And in their own time, offered a lot of creativity.
graveltgr is a commercialized advertising movie that has been re released for the last 8 years every season with a different title. cineflex bullshit and bad cringey interviews with product placement out the ass. some of the skiers throw down but it aint worth it for the rest of that sales shitshow.
maybe kai jones will hit his rebel phase soon and start skiing street with zoot.
cmrosynekI don’t know if he’ll start skiing street but I could definitely see him branching out in the upcoming years into more park oriented films. It seems that he gets a lot of inspiration from Karl Fostvedt and Nick McNutt who are guys that both throw down in the park. I could see him as a reverse Sammy Carlson once he turns 20-22.

mnosbodHard to compare apples to apples with that list but I've been really digging Sam Anthamatten for a while, between the new Faction movie and La Liste 2 with Jeremie Heitz, they seem to still be pushing it. Not quite the insane cliff drops but definitely charging like a motherfucker
BigPurpleSkiSuitI do think the MSP movie will have more of that this year though. I mean Kuch is definitely a new level, and that lineup is amazing.

SofaKingSickappreciate the heads up on these, boys, i wasn't aware MSP might have some of that up their sleeve now and i haven't watched Sam A as much as i should apparently. thanks!
c4deI just view them as a money hungry media company that makes videos because they have to unlike level 1 on the other hand and bruh $50 hats? thats fucked. kai jones's instagram makes me jealous also so its easier to hate them then to admit my feeling
BigPurpleSkiSuitI feel for Kai, like he just wants to ski and have a good time, and he has the money behind him and the connections to do it. Is he the best skier for his age, maybe not? But he's close to it in the big mountain scene for sure it seems, and he's putting down some heavy hitting stuff.
WoFlowzThe films suck if Todd Jones kid has one of the longest segments the movie sucks
SkiPigeon123I almost feel asleep watching them to
HypeBeastDon't hate cuz he's better than you. But honestly NS hate for this kid is wild. Y'all hated him even before he was a teenager. Who cares?
*too

r00kieI hope that when Kai turns 16 in 7 years he'll go full rebel and start smashing tables and burning down cigs while riding Jets.
BradFiAusNzCoCaI could see Kai getting a smaller company sponsorship in the future, skiing at a local resort/only BC and getting super earthy. Almost pulling an Ian Compton after growing up under TGR spotlight
CLQYa know, I've never met Tim Durtschi but I kinda hate him too. Not only is he one of the top skiers today but he also has an absolutely massive cock. I mean, I'm talking pornstar level penis between his legs. It just doesn't seem fair that he is a pro skier and has that size of a weapon on him.
SendyMcSendyfaceLmao based on the wydaho drama I've heard, his gf likes to cheat on him with other girls.
gravelhonestly was thinking about the first bit of this a little. like, is todd gonna get all upset and take it personal when his son tells him he doesn’t wanna film with TGR anymore? is that even a likely reality?
BigPurpleSkiSuitBecause I think there's too many people here shitting on durtschi, let's not forget what is a very very strong contender for best segment of all time

CaseyLol yeah how many people have landed anything switch over pyramid let alone a dub- dude is still killing it pretty underrated IMO
HypeBeastIs that technically cheating?
BigPurpleSkiSuitsaw their movie last night, it was definitely underwhelming in my opinion apart from Kai Jones and Johnny Collinson's AK segment. I wish there had been more Mcnutt, but that's the way it is, and no matter how much you try to make Ski Mountaineering and getting to objectives seem like 'progression', I can't help but think of the lines Mac has skied in the past and go, ehhhh, rope rapelling down a first descent face is nowhere near as gnarly as that.
I get that as you get older, your body can't take the same stuff it used to, but I can't help but think that Big Mountain skiing as a whole has somewhat gone backwards in terms of the gnarliness factor. I mean, just look at the Red Bull Cold Rush competitions, any of the old Sean Petit and Richard Permin stuff. The gnarliest lines on the world tour were skied by Aymar Navarro and Reine Barkered who are 30 and 38 respectively now.

BrandoComandoI understand why hucking cliffs isn't as common as it used to be. Athletes shouldn't have to risk their lives for a paycheck.
But man, some of those shots are insanely cool

BigPurpleSkiSuitI mean, aren't pretty much all motorcycle stunt guys/bike guys risking their lives for a paycheck? Same with all the other major action sport guys. I'd say compared to those, the risk of gnarly bodily injury is fairly low in skiing because you're falling on snow rather than dirt.
