It's fucking rare as hell for abortions to happen after 18 weeks in any country...

For example, in 2014, Only about 1.3% of US pregnancy terminations happened after 21 weeks (just over half of a full-term) - and the majority of those were situations where the mother's life was threatened and the fetus was unlikely to survive outside of the womb anyhow due to some sort of serious abnormality.

The youngest a baby has ever even survived prematurely was 21.5 weeks... and that was an exceptional case where the pregnancy was emergency terminated because the twin had died - If Alabama's state abortion illegality law wasn't superseded by Roe v. Wade at the time, the child wouldn't have survived, much less the mother since it would have taken days to get her out of the state to perform the procedure.

Basically none happen past 24 weeks - in those cases, pregnancy terminations really just mean that the fetus is 'born' prematurely. often, it will die soon after if it makes it out at all.

CaseyThere’s a lot of shit going on right now outside of this- pandemic ending but actually not, inflation going nuts, war in Ukraine, Jan 6 Commission - when I think about it the decision seems a lot more political than I realized at first. It might pay off big for the midterms to drop a grenade in the race right at the outset. I tend to think it will get republicans all on the same page through 2024. If the Dems were smart they would take advantage of the fact that a big majority of the public agrees with them but they probably will fuck it up somehow.
