Also the governor saying that he was going to eliminate all future rapes in response to not having a provision for rapes in the new bill.
I don't live in Texas or know that much about him but that seems pretty cooked to even say that.

mrk127Republicans are so fucking hypocritical. Isn’t their whole thing wanting more deregulation and less government in their lives? Then why the fuck do they try so hard to regulate abortion and stop people from getting legitimate medical procedures.
fucking bullshit
_Garagely_I lean pretty firmly right nowadays and I'm very disappointed by this upcoming court decision. Doesn't matter what the circumstance or issue is, a governmental body has absolutely no business intervening in the medical decisions of a competent individual. Many of us do have a consistent ideology.
That said I do want to actually read the opinion and understand the case to see what the court's reasoning was.
xxACIDTRIPxxPeople be pro abortion saying it aint life yet
Then see a speck of dust on mars and be like "OHHHHH LIFE ON MARS"
BearsOnKetamineHear me out all 50 active users on ns vote to put Andy parry into office. He lives in Oregon, have you ever met a mean person from Oregon. We all get free pizza and, he can dismantle corporate skiing, and he’s left wing so I like Him but that’s not important. FREE PIZZA.
DingoSeanThe worst part is how badly this disaffects the underprivileged and poor...
well off folks who can afford a trip to a blue state or mexico/canada will never have abortion rights taken away... only poor people in shithole states...

HypeBeastNot sure what you're being downvoted for. I'm also very interested to read their argument if this actually ends up being their vote. Also how the fuck can the Supreme Court overturn a Supreme Court ruling? Isn't that the point of the Supreme Court to interpret the constitution and rights and shit and have the ultimate say? If they overturn this, it's very much a degradation to their own power and decisions. Really makes you question legitimacy of past rulings. I'm so confused, lawyer people chime in.
Also obligatory @skierman

DingoSeanDoes anyone think this might lead to external consequences of this? Stuff that might hurt the economy of these places?
Like, could this lead a drop in the prices of homes in Red States that enact laws that make abortion illegal with heavy punitive consequences? Or perhaps fewer girls going wild in New Orleans or Miami (whenever Florida passes some horrible law) and therefore a sharp drop in state tourism?
I know for a fact that it will lead to fewer young women attending universities in many different states... there will be a brain drain...
If I had a daughter, I would not want her to go to University in Texas, Arizona or Michigan - or any place with a law prohibiting abortion and subverting her right to privacy...
I'm ultimately curious to find out what the full scope of consequences will be from this ruling... beyond the obvious...
BrandoComandoSupreme Court rulings do get overturned, but it's extraordinarily rare. And in almost all cases, it's to expand liberties. For example, the Supreme Court overturned its decision that allowed for segregated communities (banning "Separate but equal"). They overruled their decision that allowed states to ban gay marriage. They overruled their decision that allowed states to ban interracial marriage. They overruled their decision that allowed for segregated schools. In all of these cases, the court is expanding freedoms and protecting them under constitutional rights.
Here's a few more landmark overrulings
Never has a ruling removed a constitutional right as significant as abortion. Especially one that's been established and supported by the majority of Americans for 50 years. This decision is unheard of in US History. It's very clearly a political motive and it's a disgrace to the Court's already-declining integrity.

HypeBeastIt's all a play for the religious types.
HypeBeastI do find it interesting that conservatives are pushing for a law that will create an even bigger burden on our welfare system, yet that's a system they try so much to not pay into. They're not thinking too much about this for a party allegedly more intelligent and conscious about budgets and deficits...this will hurt that goal. It's all a play for the religious types.
VTshredder69abortion is a choice. Just like using protection is a choice. Or getting hammered and getting railed by a dude then saying he raped you.
If you're selfish enough to kill your own baby you have made the choice to be a selfish piece of shit.

cyphersnot gonna get into it with you about abortion but you're an actual scumbag for downplaying rape. genuinely concerned for the women in your life if this is your worldview

HypeBeastTldr: read my word vomit. It's good stuff.
Abortion by choice for bad decisions aside, let's revisit rape. I would say the ED I work at has at least 2-3 people each night, some more some less, who visit because they were sexually assaulted. 1 in 5 women receive attempted or completed rape in the US (source: CDC), and if you think these guys use condoms often, they dont.... Rape victims get the whole gambit of antibiotics, antivirals, and Plan B or Ella...10 pills and an IM injection to be exact. What happens when those people get pregnant? Plan B and Ella aren't 100% effective. If they're on oral contraceptives (because newsflash to religious hardliners, birth control pills do more than just prevent pregnancy), we can't give them Ella because it actually increases risk of pregnancy. Plan B is only good for 72hrs and it's not uncommon for people to show up later. Efficacy for emergency contraceptives is in the high 90 percent. If you're obese, the failure rate of these emergency contraceptives drops dramatically. Who'd wanna rape a fat chick? Idk but they do. What about the 3% who fail emergency contraception? Do we say tough luck, enjoy your rape baby, if you don't die giving birth (700/yr in the US)? Minorities have a higher risk of death during pregnancy and are also the biggest at risk group if abortion was banned.
So tell me what happens when those people get pregnant because of rape. They should have the baby right? The anti abortion bill in Ohio right now doesn't even give exclusions to these people. Quite surreal for a state that's generally pretty moderate and flip flops from election to election.
Absolutely fucking ridiculous that people think they have any place dictating this. Take a look at the map below from 5/3/22. Most states already are in line with age of viability; if someone wants to make a cutoff at viability then sure because that's plenty of fucking time. Otherwise what's the point of getting your jimmies in a bind for an aborted fetus (because it's not a fucking baby yet), that if given birth right now would never survive. And I'm not gonna go down the rabbit hole of premature neonatal care and outcomes but it's not like they're all perfectly healthy or all live to leave the NICU. Age of viability is 22-24 weeks. I've seen a 22w patient but that's literally a miracle to survive with good outcomes and not be a patient with more health problems than a 90yo.
You really should just focus on things that affect you.

EightsailsI know in my brain you guys are both downvote seeking trolls, but I don't understand how someone has the free time to think of the correct thing, and use the effort to type down the opposite every time.
