Knee Braces Skiing

i feel naked without my big ass brace, i personally think it’s helps

Last year I was sick of waiting to get my knee fixed so decided to do the whole season with my acl ripped the brace honestly saved my life . I honestly wish I didn’t have to wear it as it slips sometimes and takes extra space i feel more free without it but its this or no ski for me and I will probably keep wearing it unless it ever ends up being stronger than it was before I got injured

I dont go out without mine. I have 2 custom Don Joys(insurance helped pay for them) because I have had multiple surgeries on both knees. Many past injuries have led to where I am at now. Prior to these braces I would wear a neoprene brace on each knee that had the straps to adjust the tightness, they helped but would still allow the knee to hyperextend or collapse to degrees causing ACL pops. The Don Joys restrict these motions and also keep the lower leg stable from going left or right when not needed, causing ACL and MCL pops. I do recommend a good knee brace for our sport, your older self will thank you later in life.

After my ACL shredding incident my doctor got me fitted for a custom donjoy defiance 3 brace. It is amazing my knee has never felt safer. Plus you can pick colors including the American flag.

I wear ski knee braces, and I consider them very important for our safety. I say this because I had an unpleasant experience not wearing knee braces. Even though it was the 10th time I had skied, I considered myself a professional, even if I was a beginner. My parents told me to get some knee braces to feel safe, but I avoided their advice. So, in the end, I ended up with a serious knee fracture. But I quickly turned to cameronmch.com and received treatment. Now I always have knee braces with me when I go skiing. I choose safety)

You should always consult a dr about this stuff if you can because it's a case by case issue. Knee braces are super helpful for skiing with bad knees, especially if you actually have an injury. However, you shouldn't become reliant on them (unless a Dr says otherwise obviously) because of stress shielding. Stress shielding is where your body gets used to some forces being diverted around your bones and over time, your bone starts to become less dense and strong. This obviously can lead to future problems, so if you just feel some pain, but don't actually have an injury to nurse, you should try to manage without a brace, it's probably better in the long run. Again, every person's pain is a little different and you should just consult a doctor. My physical therapist told me to avoid using my compression brace unless really needed as it will help my recovery be more complete.
