There's a bunch of engineers on this site, myself included. Engineering majors are really difficult in college, and have more demanding base coursework than some other majors. I'm not shit talking other majors because every major takes effort and is difficult, its just a reality.
That being said the STEM superiority complex is stupid and it was wack how my professors encouraged it. Engineers are a valuable part of society but fuck me if some they the some of the most limited people out there. Peer reviewing lab reports senior year of college made me feel like a 5th grade teacher. Becoming an engineer doesn't mean you're smart, it means you can try really hard at school and aren't scared of numbers.
also you're a freshman and you haven't done shit yet. cry about it
Many of those “Mfs on NS” who are “crying” are Engineers. We’ve been in your shoes and I guess all we’re trying to say is don’t let it go to your head.
It’s not Engineering that gets backlash, it’s how it gets talked about.
MaimHelpMfs on NS when you talk about engineering
hope you like barely scraping past hs and working at a bakery just to be the lil dude who gets told to do all the shit work.
I respect those who went into trades or something like that tho
If you aren't an engineer, and are instead, say, a history person. You contribute nothing to society and your bloodline should probably be forcibly ended through sterilization
Hey history is important. Art majors we can do without.
LonelyAm engineer.
Engineering is easy.

Agreed. Art is important as well, just don't understand why going to school makes someone a better artist. Lots of good art out there coming from folks who didn't study art for 4 years and $100,000.

Connections and pedigree to validate your art I'd imagine as well as resources
ski_salmon69Calculus is going to fuck me in the ass
Why are you afraid of calc?
are you talking about multivariable?
any math class is doable as long as its not one of those organic chem style failout courses where the professor tries to fail 75% of the students. Those can be a bitch. But assuming you are in a math course where the professors try to actually teach you, anybody can learn math. If math isnt natural for you then just be prepared to spend a really long time putting the pieces together. Alot of ppl fail at math bc they think they can just do equations as fast as they would write a sentence on an english paper. It doesnt work that way. You have to take math slowly and make sure you are really understanding what you need to understand to move forward.
you cant just snort a bunch of adderal and then study for your math test in 10 minutes.
i honestly believe that in order to truly be incapable of understanding things as easy as hs calc you have to be an enormous fucking idiot.
How many of you guys are legit engineers or just engineering majors, I’m curious. It always made me laugh in college when we saw the new group of freshman engineering majors each year and like half of them were gone after 1 semester of calc. It slightly bothers me too to see students (especially freshmen) call themselves engineers, you’ve got to fucking earn that distinction.
BiffbarfBragging about being an engineer after your first week of college is like bragging about skiing after making it down your first dOuBlE BlAcK dIaMoNd

I strongly believe I am just an engineering student because the most mathematical design I've designed was a single joint... (Edit: actually probably ski jumps haha) I read/watch/think about engineering in history almost primarily, even more than skiing, but it's all learning, thus I'm a student. No one isn't a student in some way, in my opinion. Not sure I even want to become a professional engineer but I definitely plan on using what I've learned to design things throughout my life.

I also think it is ridiculous how many engineering students refer to themselves as engineers despite being completely incompetent at solving engineering problems other than with a strictly mathmatical viewpoint. Not that the math isn't important but I met so many mech eng students who had no idea what an endmill iss and had complete lack of competency in CAD or even pencil-and-paper design skills.
I hesitate to call myself an engineer because I deliberately blew off the FE exam, I took it in 2 hours and only actually tried to answer questions that I felt like doing. I didn't want to go down the path of becoming a PE and at the time I just wanted to check off a box so that I could graduate and be done with school. Now I'm considering studying for and trying to pass the FE but I really don't know if engineering is a career I would be happy to pursue. However my boss refers to me as an engineer sometimes, my partner calls me an engineer, my friends call me an engineer, and I am using my engineering skills at my current job despite not having to do "actual engineering" that requires the designation of a PE.

I’m an EE with a focus in Electronics design. There are almost no jobs in my particular area that require me to get a PE and even if I took the FE finding a job that would allow me to earn my PE is a tall order. I’m not a fan of how a lot of state licensure boards allow only PEs to have the title of Engineer when most of us don’t need it. I think I earned that right especially since some of my work was the backbone of a 9 figure contract.
