Apparently, the Caldor fire has spread to Sierra at Tahoe. That place is so fun. I had a great day there skiing powder in the trees. It was amazing. Plus, the SLVSH games they put out were always so sick. Such a shame. Hopefully minimal damage. Unfortunately, it looks like Kirkwood maybe next too.
Fuck dude :( wildfires are the worst. Fuckin pisses me off knowing a huge majority of them stem from some loser on spring break with their college friends and they were too lazy to put out their bonfire. I hope everyone in these fires end up okay that shits just scary
Aside from the fire topic. I wasn’t a huge fan of those slvsh games at least compared to other ones that have happened. It was all j the same purple challenge rail, cannon rail, and a couple booters. I love slvsh to death but that cup was a little hard to get stoked for

Sierra is a sick resort but it’s small. They’ve hosted Super Unknown, Tanner Hall invitational, Slvsh, etc. They don’t have the infrastructure for a huge park but it’s a special place. The trees are magical, the parks are fun, and they’re super inclusive. They’re one of the only resorts that allows people to cook food in their lodges (rice cookers, etc). They’ve put out Olympians. The quality of their Slvsh cup is the last thing I’m thinking about now.
It would be a real shame if Tahoe loses Sierra

It’s scary. They turned the wildfire cam to face the other way I noticed (or one is down - not sure which).

Garrett's summer gig is fighting forest fires, he's typically the guy with the chainsaw cutting down trees to help prevent spread.
The earliest info I got about the Caldor fire was from his IG. That’s a whole other level of dedication to the mountain. Risking your life in the off season to ensure the preservation. Mad respect to him.

Almost lost my home mountain in the central Sierra last Summer. I know what this feels like and hoping those in SLT can stay safe. Would be a shame to lose a mountain like Sierra.
Yeah I heard China almost got lost last season. I know a few people who work out there. Scary stuff

This can't be the first time they've had to deal with a fire. I imagine there will be some setbacks, but they will be open for the winter. Hopefully the CA drought will break by next summer though :(.
Learned to snowboard and later learned to ski at Sierra, it will forever be my favorite resort. Tree skiing is unmatched and the available terrain vs amount of chair lifts is hard to beat. Hopefully they can recover from this.
My favorite part are the news outlets focusing on the wealthy pieces of shit that moved to Lake Tahoe for the pandemic and now have to evacuate because of the fire. WOW WHAT A TRAGEDY! WEALTHY PEOPLE HAD TO MOVE AGAIN!? OMGGG

only ever seen that in vermont, much respect. hope they are able to open again after this. does anyone know some possible outcomes/how much work it would take after the fire blazed through to clean up and re open?

I mean this fire is right on top of Tahoe. Thats pretty new. Also yes they likely all will be open, but with a huge fire right on top of it, there's a little more to it. And a big fire burning through a resort is more than "some setbacks"

I'll be surprised if Sierra can return to normal operations by opening day. Just because buildings aren't damaged, doesn't mean the mountain itself isn't damaged. Lifts will need inspection and recertification. Trees are scarred/killed and may need to be removed so that dead trees aren't collapsing on visitors. The mountain is more prone to erosion and avy danger with vegetation burned away. There's a lot to do and only 2-3 months to do it. Definitely more than "some setbacks"

Sierra has some of the best tree skiing in Tahoe. If there's any bright side, it's that the glades got thinned out and the tree skiing should be even better.
Kudos to the resiliency of Sierra. I'll certainly be supporting them this winter
