Early season ski spots near slc

Gonna be skiing out west for the first time this year and I’m looking for spots in utah that you can sesh before the resorts open. If you’re from slc and know some spots hmu!

Hmmm, DIY zones, near SLC???

I got you bro, pull up to Ruby Hill. It’s only a crisp 8 hour drive but IMO it’s the best DIY zone near SLC

As soon as it snowed last season the base of alta was filled with people setting up tubes and home made rails. Seemed like lots of people were sharing set ups with anyone that wanted to hit them

That was really only because brighton wouldnt let folks build at bonezone last fall, would assume bonezone @ brighton will be back this year like normal. Alta is wide open to ski, snowboard, anything pre season though usually the first spot to make real turns with minimal snow mainly grassy slope underneath

If you type in any of the child labor Crew, mango, etc with the words “early season” after usually the bone zone comes up. Only pre season spot you’re gonna need

Bone zone is the place to be. I can't slide a rail for shit, but I learned how to a little bit there, and tons of people were very encouraging and when one snowboarder was mean to me because I dropped in front of him as he was bombing in from the top without calling his drop, everyone else stood up for me while he was yelling at me.

For non park rat activities, Alta would probably be your best bet. I'd argue that's where the majority of the locals go for pre-season turns including me :)

all great options above. Also check out guardsmans pass. Its at the top of big cottonwood canyon. Snow usually sticks a bit longer than over at bone zone. It can be tough to find though If you don't know about it.
