Im a determinist too. I believe everything is going to happen the way its going to happen. Even if you just look at it philosophically, you could ask “If the past could have happened in a differently then it did, then why didnt it?” Like what could possibly have the right to choose one fate over another? Its funny how the would “could’ve” gets used so often, yet the word is almost completely meaningless bc it describes a reality that does not exist. There is nothing you “could’ve” done differently. Either you did something, or you didnt do something. There is no in between. A funny thing i learned from my time in austria and germany is that almost everybody from germany and switzerland eastwards believes in fate, and that what happens in life was destined to happen that way. This is very different from the typical americans viewpoint which centers on the idea of free will.

i think believing in free will is probably good for your genetic fitness, because it prods you to go out there and live life to its fullest.

personally tho i cannot live under a false pretense. I need to know what i am and what i am made of and how i work and what the fuck “this thing” is, as joe rogan puts it, and where it came from.

dude im sorry you seem to have had some rough times. In buddhism the trick is to realize everybody has to go through some suffering in life. Some more than others, but we can connect to eachother when it comes to loss/suffering because everybody suffers at one point or another in life. Not just you.

I went through the typical “I discovered peterson” when I was like 20 and liked some things he said but it just kept going further and further down the rabbit hole with him and I didn’t want to keep up. I listened to the “behind the bastards” podcast on him (I’m not a HUGE fan of that podcast - I always follow up on the info I hear and I’m not a big fan of the host) and the thing that stuck out to me is how Peterson was getting in trouble for cherry picking facts for his lectures and interweaving them to fit his narrative while omitting other relevant parts.

Also, Germany most def suffered from a lack of resources. Where do people think the word “ersatz” came from? Literally ersatz coffee came about because Germans couldn’t get coffee. German engineering was definitely superior to Allied in many ways but they messed up starting a war on two fronts. A Tiger Mark I is an amazing feat of engineering. Like it’s almost scary how great German engineering was in WW2 compared to ally. It fucking smoked Sherman’s and T-34s. But in Russia where it’s frozen and with no fuel? Not so much.

I think if you mixed up all the variable combinations of ww2, most of them would have germany pulling off the upset.

if hitler had waited until von braun had developed the v2 rocket and the aircraft engineers had developed jet powered fighters before germany blitzed poland we would all be speaking german right now.

the stg44 wouldve been a motherfucker for the allies to deal with too if it wasnt so late to the party.

If america wants ppl to believe the united states is as great of a country as germany is today then we need to delimit certain US highways like the german autobahns and we need to decriminalize every drug that isnt insanely inadvisable to take.

if your ford isnt safe to drive 120mph on a straight empty highway, BUY A GERMAN CAR.

if you cant drive a german car safely at 120mph on an empty highway, THEN DONT FUCKING DRIVE.

Yeah I think they just got a bit too ambitious too fast. They had many advantages. Hitler also made the mistake of declaring war on America when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor because we had $$$ and plenty of industry to make vehicles, weapons, etc. that wasn't under constant air raid alarm.

Another huge advantage we had as Americans was the first standard issue semi auto rifle ( M1 garand) but I have, also, read that axis troops would wait to listen for the “ting” of the clip hitting the floor (aka you’re out and need to reload) before attacking in certain situations. If you watch old American troop training videos, they dedicate a ridiculous amount of time trying to convince American troops that the MG42 (“Hitler’s buzzsaw”) wasn’t as lethal as ours. This was a lie, of course, but I get the reason they did it for morality sake.


I’m still reading “The Forgotten soldier” by Guy Sajer and they’re in Poland now retreating. He said it was like -60 windchill and all their vehicles froze because someone forgot to run them overnight. They wouldn’t start so they have to retreat on foot. Crazy stuff.

Do you seriously think that if a god or group of gods had the actual ability and power to create the whole entire universe as far as we know it, and actually cared about us, that yet they would let things like childhood cancer exist?

If they are an omnipotent perfect being as most all gods and certainly the abrahamic gods are conceived to be, either they are incompetent enough to allow something like that to exist, or they are simply indifferent to their creation and don't care about us enough... as if we are a neglected ant farm in the corner of the room.
