HypeBeastWhy do I feel like you're lying.... But they're both sweet in their own ways.
danbrownjohn wick no question
SlitherySnakejohn wick is cooler but the plot is worse
JAHpow^This is an accurate take.
The Bourne trilogy is more real life. (But don't even bother with the two newer ones)
Wick is just badassery the whole time with certainly more Hollywood going on
hunterS.dolansonHow many bourne movies are there?

LonelyInteresting take. I don't think John Wick was ever intended to be real life. It was directed by a stunt guy and I think they just wanted a cool mysterious universe to just use as a medium to do cool shit.
I think the story is very "not real life" but the action is more real-life than bourne. No quick cuts, reloads for the most part matching the model of firearm he is using, press checks, the actual martial arts, etc. etc.
Also, Reeves did most of his own stunts and did a heck of a lot of training for JW. Berry went from not ever shooting a gun to this as well.

also quick correction, i have seen the jeremy renner one where he saves the hot doctor and flies with her to asia.
the plot for that movie was kind of ridiculous imo.
On the other hand John wick movies from what ive seen seem to turn ridiculousness into based awesomeness.
It kind of makes you realize how much the matrix 2 and matrix 3 were pretty underwhelming compared to matrix 1. There are good scenes from 2 and 3 but they are chocked full of preachy sjw bullshit.
JAHpowThe actual weapon mechanics and manipulation are certainly accurate in Wick. That's about the only thing though.
I'd say the martial arts in Bourne are fairly accurate in that they're aren't showy at all. They're very brutal, quick, scrappy fights, and use weapons of opportunity (this isn't to say that wick doesn't use weapons of opportunity however). I just think Wick's portrayal is just very Hollywood and showy. One man up against dozens of bad guys at once. Using perfectly executed martial arts moves. That's just not how reality works.
Bourne just seems more like a authentic clandestine operative who has great situational awareness, gets in fights only when absolutely necessary, but avoids them if possible. I wouldn't say there's a part that really sticks out to me that is very INaccurate in firearms use in Bourne.
That's why I think, overall, Bourne is more "real". They're both Hollywood anyway tho

I guess for me, comparing these two scenes, it's actually not all that dissimilar. Maybe for me, it is just the way it is filmed and edited? I think that long cuts, rather than small quick cut's does a lot more for the whole "realism" thing for me even though I know in both situations no actual person is going to get walloped in the faces over and over again and not hit the floor.
JAHpowYeah I was thinking about those two scenes. I don't think any other Bourne fights (and I'm talking the original trilogy here) get more theatrical than that fight (besides him falling down the stairwell). However, I do think that many of Wick's fights are more theatrical than that library fight. Wick and the guy shooting at each other in the subway yet no one notices the suppressed shots. Wick against all the ninjas in that glass room in parallelum. Wick vs dozens of armored guys in the continental, etc etc. In comparison to Bourne falling down the stairwell and using a body to cushion the fall, Wick falls off a friggin 10 story building and lives.
And don't even get me started about his bullet proof suit coat.

Good job buying into yet another shitty Dolan thread.
Monsieur_PatateGive the guy a break, how is Dolan supposed to appreciate the action scenes while his brain is still stuck trying to understand whose dog it was, that plot line is too complex for him.
hunterS.dolansonCompilation as a word describes a set or series of something. Idk why you think that wasnt a reasonable word to use to describe a series of movies.
skiermanYou're a stupid jackass.

DingoSeanJohn wick 1: 'story about how he killed some guys with a pencil'
John Wick 2: actually kills 2 guys with a pencil.
John Wick 3: Kills guy in a library with a book.
Talk about weapons of opportunity, my lord... Oh, and dont forget about how JW3 has what I would like to hereby refer to as 'Dog-Fu' Which is like Dogs finally getting their revenge after what happened to them in JW1.
Im excited for John Wick 4 and beyond...
I was never that excited for the next Bourne film. It just wasnt believable after a while. It felt like a storyline written for one of those lower budget action TV shows like Alias or Dark Angel or whatever... Id rather see MaAat DaAaymon in a Good Will Hunting type role...

JAHpowI didn't say John Wick doesn't use weapons of opportunity. Also, Bourne uses a pen, a book, and a lamp in a single hand-to-hand fight as it moves through an apartment.
The dogs scene is, imo, another example of unrealistic badassery. It's cool, but dozens of guys against two people and two dogs... the odds there are stacked.
It's a just a cool shoot 'em up, badass movie series that is seriously fun to watch. They're well made. They just, as a whole, are not as "realistic".
We keep beating a dead horse in this thread.
DingoSeanI guess 'realistic' isnt the right word... but every single time they reload, its because theyve actually shot that many bullets during a long-take. The way Keanu handles each weapon is actually the way anyone fully trained with say, a Glock or a 1911 etc would actually use them. Its pretty damn cool.
As for the dogs, They actually had Halle Berry basically raise those dogs from puppies for like 6 months or something and work with a trainer to get them ready for the film. Its extremely hard to train a dog to do all of the things they did without injuring anyone, but they adjusted the training to teach them that it was 'playtime'. Thats fucking awesome. Makes you feel pretty good knowing that those goodbois were getting to play every time they were on set. Makes it that much more fun to watch in the end.
I just had a lot more fun watching John Wick than Bourne. The long takes are such a fun way of displaying action and really suck you into the scene, and the world that was built where like everyone is an assassin? pretty damn cool.
dolanslebensraumkeanus original hit which was “Speed”.
DingoSeanPoint Break came out YEARS before Speed...
And he was already well known long before then anyway thanks to Bill & Ted
