bryann_carvoprob gonna go wit a hard shell that's semi insulated but idk what's good
bradwaltersTo add to my previous post - Just go to evo.com and search "Gore" and click ski jackets on the left. Sure lots of them are still pricey but there are actually a ton of good buys on there right now.
JemsI’d recommend putting waterproof rain jackets over synthetic under layers but thats just what i’ve done. Goodwill jackets work flawlessly.
bryann_carvoWill check that out now….thanks
Jemsplease don’t waste your money on goretex..... you do not need that shit i’ve been skiing bridger in a 5 dollar non waterproof shell

thoughts on this??
Jemsmy opinions on jackets will always be negative so i ain’t the one to ask
bryann_carvohow tf u survive on da mtn when its -10
JemsLayers and raincoats
I usually start with a thin synthetic long sleeve then sometimes a thicker layer then coat that with a windbreaker or rain jacket. I despise the way jackets feel.
DilldoesPaloAltoHonestly you could probably find something decent at thrift store etc. My little brother instructed all season in two pairs of goodwill ski pants that were like 10 bucks for both.
c-friesJust wear a bunch of layers and a half decent jacket. That’s what I do out here.
Also kinco mittens if you wanna fit in or people will think you’re a Texan. And a loser! Ha!
bryann_carvoI would 100 percent do that but I moved to Georgia and there is nothing here....
bryann_carvoonly problem about this jacket for me is idk if a small is gonna be too small. I'm 5'9 but a small is the only size left...rip
G5_KiDThat armada jacket looks less than ideal, I have a camo Saga Anorak in Medium, waterproof and slightly insulated. only used it for one season, PM me if your interested I'll hook you up.
bryann_carvoYe I just realized what anorak meant and I don’t want that lol…I’m lookin for a shell that’s fully zipped
G5_KiDWord, well then I'd still recommend evo, they have amazing deals right now as mentioned above... for instance - https://www.evo.com/outlet/shell-jackets/dakine-wyeast-jacket#image=137112/641215/dakine-wyeast-jacket-.jpg
bryann_carvooh damn, yea... thanks man. Might go with that jacket too
bradwaltersI didnt see this dakine jacket but II would buy this one. I've been running a Dakine jacket, pants and bibs when i need them for a few years now and love them. Definitely a good buy and fits well.
christianwearschyou can usually find some decently priced jackets from armada, that’s where I would start off. however, you may get hot using an insulated jacket on the tour up
SkibumsmithLayering is going to be crucial in the backcountry. For this reason I would not recommend buying one jacket to do it all. Start by getting a puffy for resort days and a softshell for touring. Montana is pretty dry so a fancy waterproof hard shell will be the least important bit but nice to have when the wind is howling. I would recommend looking for used stuff on FB marketplace once you get to montana or looking in the buy/sell forums on TGR.
bryann_carvoYea I’m looking at this:
https://www.levelninesports.com/armada-evers-gore-tex-3l-jacket-indigo-small-mens-2020/
but it’s $360….yikes
christianwearschthat’s like the nicest gore tex one possible. if you get a cheaper one it’ll still keep you warm, just maybe not as breathable and water proof but you won’t notice imo
Jemsplease don’t waste your money on goretex..... you do not need that shit i’ve been skiing bridger in a 5 dollar non waterproof shell
safarisamAfter skiing Montana for 8 years I can confirm Goretex is worth it if you’re getting a one and done jacket. Or something with similar technology such as flow or 686’s version of it.
but seriously, I’d try and get a shell and a puffy to toss on under it. Layering is key out here.

bryann_carvoIn a few weeks Im headed to Montana for college and am looking for a good jacket that is warm enough. I prefer a jacket that is not a shell and good for the backcountry while also not being too expensive (anything under $200).
