BradFiAusNzCoCaHey dude,
Just moved back for the year. Grew up skiing the area. Like @Thegenericskier said - app and beech are fun. I’m getting beech pass because it’s bigger and I can get free days at my old local resort in Tahoe with a beech pass (in case I visit).
Ah but you said southeast. Then snowshoe I would say is most fun all around resort. But App and beech still have great parks.

Craw_DaddyAppalachian Ski Mountain, Home of the French-Swiss Ski College and birthplace of Luke Winkelman. Also, you live near some of the best whitewater in the country so if skiing on man-made slush for 3 months doesn't do it for you then you can always buy a kayak.

weastcoastCan’t remember which one but a resort in NC last year opened before any other resort … nov 17 or something like that. All PA, WV, and most northeast hills weren’t open that early. It’s so far south but that elevation makes a crazy difference
ThegenericskierI think you’re talking about sugar mountain. The owner loves to be open before anyone else even if there’s a 5 inch base

dhessIf you like rail jams, Ober puts on a small one in November before the resorts open. Other than that no reason to venture into Tennessee for skiing. Like other people said, App and Beech have nice parks and Cataloochee is fun to go to when they open before the other places. Not sure about Sugar Mountain though... never been there.
STEEZUS_CHRI5TCan always check out Liberty snow flex center in Virginia during the fall/spring. It’s about 2hrs from Raleigh area.
logmueI'm gonna have to check that out!
CaseyIf someone told me there’s a 5500’ peak in NC that people ski at I would have put money on that being bullshit.
