Style vs trick selection: which is more important

talk about what you value in skiing more, style or trick selection. I have to say I value style a lot more than trick selection because there is no point in doing crazy tricks if it doesn't look good, so i would much rather see or do easier tricks with more style.

If you have style and do lame tricks that kinda sucks and if you have no style and do sick tricks honestly imo respect. Not everybody is gonna have style. If you don’t have a sick personality you probably wont have sick style they are just a reflection of eachother so id say trick selection is slightly more important.

Style has more longevity than trick selection but they both compliment each other. Sure a dub 12 mute was the shit back in the day but nowadays watching basic but stylish tricks from the same era has more appeal.

If the trick is very hard then it needs less style to impress

if the trick is easy then it needs lots of style to impress

But a hard or interesting trick (like a unique axis or non-basic rail trick) that is done stylishly takes the cake on almost every occasion

the longer i ski the more i care about style, in my early days hated the bunch and loved triples but now i’m the opposite

oh shit you guys mean trick selection as in how hard the tricks are I thought we were more talking about having good trick selection in terms of good looking tricks not necessarily the biggest ones.

If were talking have style compared to being able to do the gnarliest tricks then the answer is obviously style who the fuck wants to watch an actual edit with only dubs and 630’s

style over everything tbh, if there's no style it's not watchable no matter how hard the trick is.

also trick difficulty or creativity does not directly correlate with how cool it looks

I absolutely love heady trick selection but style probably is more indicative of truly flowing on the mountain. I abhor front 270s out more than any other trick but there are riders out there who forcibly make me enjoy watching them. At the same time though, I think tasteful trick selection shows more intelligence or nerdiness which is really satisfying to watch as well.

Depends on the event.

For Olympics-types events, I prefer watching for refined, weightless trick selection and execution.

For a hot sesh with da boys, I prefer watching for punk-rock heavy-stomping meat-hucking style.

For a major event in between like Dew Tour or X-Games, I prefer to watch for a balance of both but an emphasis on novelty of the tricks.
