Boots with good ankle hold but slightly bigger toe box?

I’ve been riding my Ft Tw pros for 2 seasons now, they fit great. Great ankle hold and I’m riding a small size so they give me tons of control. My only complaint is my toenails get bruised so easily, usually when I land shit backseat on a rare occasion. Then my nails will just die and fall off, new ones grow back, repeat cycle. Gets annoying.


I have a feeling I wouldn’t have this issue if I had a boot with a bigger/taller toe box, since my toes always hit the top of my boot in these situations. Anyone have any recommendations? No I can’t go to a boot fitter atm, I’m just curious on what you guys think.

I know that when you get your liners heat molded you can put toe caps on that create a little more space around your toes

do you already have foot beds OP. sometimes the toebang is from moving around in your boots not because you don't have enough toe room. if you have the right size boots and your foot is secure then just get some more room added to the toes by a good boot fitter.
tldr: go to a good bootfitter

Fax...Full tilts are horrible for ankle lock and prone to heel lift imo. Definitely has something to do with the liner and tongue and "boatness" of the actual shell with the lack of anatomical shape in the heel. *Biased opinion, go to a REPUTABLE fitter, cheaped out this past season and paid the price by not going to someone who knew what they were doing.

Toebang is almost always from too much room. If you were to get bruised toenails from boots that were too tight, it’d be almost impossible to get your foot in there in the first place.

Ik you said you can't go to a boot fitter but you could possibly use a little punch on whatever toe is the hotspot

Did you heat mold them? If so did you use a toe cap when molding?

toe pain comes from too much room in the toe piece as much as not enough. And it's not just the toe piece, it is every part of the boot fitting properly to provide the best comfort and performance. That's why working with a boot fitter is important. Also, you might need multiple visits to the boot fitter for the best results.

Heat molded them. No toecap. No clue what that is, never heard of it. Liners are absolutely packed out to the mac at this point

sounds like some new liners might be the best option, not surprising if you've been riding on them hard for 2 seasons

Toe cap is just a foam piece you can buy to help mold the liner. I make my own with 2 bulky socks and just cut the toe out and put them on with your normal sock when heat molding. Makes more room in the toe box. But it sounds like you need more toe room in the shell not just the liner.

That or cut your toenails... More often than not toe bang is from boots that are too large, but definitely had that issue once with a new pair that were sized down and forgot to trim my big toe nail. Big ouch.

Toebang is a result of having toes. Amputate those bitches off and shove a bunched up sock in the front of the boot and there you go. Toebang be gone

So the best solution is a footbed and a toe box punch to your current boots, but this will require a boot fitter to do.

The footbed will help support your foot so it does not extend under load and it will also help prevent your foot moving forward when you land back seat.

With the foot better secured by the footbed the toe box can then the punched if needed to give you additional room while not changing the parts of the boot fit you say you like.

Take out your liners...put your feet in the shell...push your toes to the front then pull back to where they lightly touch the front. Take pic of space behind heel => post. Then we can have an idea of how big this shell is compared to your foot. Stop speculating! start assessing!
